165 3.68 and a Ph.D.

Post by masochist » Tue Jun 29, 2010 3:20 pm

Because 6 years of grad school just isn’t enough …
Is a t-14 reasonable given these stats?
UG GPA 3.68 from a good school, Ph.D. with a 3.9 from a very good school, 165 LSAT, and an asst. professor faculty rank at a crappy school

Not sure about t-14 but for the most part law schools care all that much about the PhD. This saddened me when I was applying since I too am a masochist with a PhD and 5 years of grad school under my belt. Represent!

Another PhD here. Don't expect T14. My 17 applications reflected my LSAT/uGPA completely as predicted. I had a 165 and retook for a 168. I think that it definitely helped; if possible, retake.

It helps, but not as much as you might think. You will come off as more mature and perhaps more prepared for a legal education. Your specialization could help you (f.e., hard science for IP or maybe even philosophy for theoretical understanding). That being said, law schools are still numbers whores.

Seriously?! I am shocked I am not the only one with this ridiculous plan :)

I promised one of my prof friends that I would show up to law school graduation wearing a shirt that says "Med School Class of 2020 ... gotta collect them all." Maybe I should look into group rates.
