Top Law Schools

How accurate is LSP in regards to UCLA. I have heard that they, along with other Cali schools, weigh more on GPA than do other schools. I'm sitting on a pisspoor ~3.0 right now. Do I have a shot a UCLA, even with a super high LSAT score?

Probably not. LSN has it happening a few times this past cycle, but not in the previous two, and the ones that did get in were science/engineering.

Definitely possible. Don't know what gets them in but I know a few 3.0 splitters, including humanities majors, no wl. However, with a 173+ there's a good argument you should ED to mpn instead.

I'll argue in favor of the theory that UCLA doesn't enjoy accepting splitters as much as other top schools. I think it has something to do with the way UCLA is ranked just below the T14. The lower half of the T14 seems really keen on stabilizing their median LSATs. I know of PLENTY of folks who skated into MVNDG with a piss poor GPA but high LSAT (I left out P and C because they seem to behave more like UCLA in not taking any ol splitter that comes along).

1. UCLA seems to be aware that many applicants with low GPAs but 171+ LSATs will be attending MVNDG, so they WL or deny.
2. UCLA seems to like people clustered around their current numbers. They figure these people aren't getting into the T14 or if so, they'll be going with no $.

It is possible to get in with ~3.0 - MURPH and I are proof of that. However, UCLA has a deserved reputation for being tough on splitters. You probably need 170+, work experience, and an ED application to have a realistic shot. In the absence of any of those factors, your chances are slim. And, if you have all of those factors, you could almost certainly get into a higher-ranked school (NU, UVa) so you need to know that UCLA is right for you.

As a fellow splitter applying to UCLA in the fall, I'm also interested in this topic. Would a slightly higher GPA (3.35) with a 170+ LSAT score make a big difference?

A better GPA always helps. An early application helps too.

OT: If anyone knows about living in Sherman Oaks, please PM me. I am thinking about buying a condo and would like some opinions on the neighborhood.

Dude, you don't want to live in Sherman Oaks - it's so far from campus.
