162-163 might sneak you into WUSTL, but 164 is in.

But Top 20 is a poor cut off. WUSTL and GWU are still TTT.

1. what is TTT?
2. ideally i would like to be a law school professor, so top 10 or top 14 would have been a better specification. any sugesstions on this?

Unless you are an URM, OP, then I would say 170+ for good chances at the T14 and 174+ for Y. You may need to heavily target Y if you want to be a professor. What was your major?

i did economics and mathematics. what would be the effects of going to notre dame on my chances of becoming a law professor? it doesn't seem that many come from there.

DF, when do you start law school?

To the OP, I would imagine he's right though. 164+ and you are most likely top-20 bound. However, with a GPA like that, it would be a shame to waste it. Aim high. Check out Berkley when you go to LSN. They love a good GPA and get pretty forgiving about the LSAT (if memory serves i think a 166 would give you a great shot there).

As much as DF's elitism rubs me the wrong way, he is actually right here. Settling for T20 is probably not TCR, unless you can swing a full ride in a region you want to study or you are just a terrible test taker. You have a 3.9 and plenty of time to study for the LSAT. You should be going to a T6 or a T14 for free.

It's not me who is elitist, it's the legal hiring market. If I could have taken $$$ at WUSTL, Illinois, or Minnesota, and still had decent career prospects I would have.

How often do law schools give out money? It seems that a lot of people are implying it's not impossible to obtain large scholarships but I was always under a different impression.

Are there any other threads on that topic?

You just need to have very high numbers (lsat/GPA) for a school.

With a 3.9, you'll be able to get full ride scholarships at some schools, but they might not be very good.
