4 years working in U.S. Senate, last 2 years with the Senate Judiciary Committee doing substantive work, not answering phones
Great deal of community involvement and substantial volunteer work (some related to that major family crisis)
Virginia resident
Would like to apply ED to UVA and then GULC if (when) I am rejected from UVA

Not that it matters, but I am really ready to work hard and make up for my undergrad mediocrity. I'd rather not relocate, but if I can't get into either of those DC schools, I'd be better off taking the in-state tuition at my undergrad, which has a T1 law school.

A 172+ should give you a ok chance. There were a few people with similar and even slightly lower GPAs that got into UVA with a 170+. Similar score needed for Georgetown, perhaps a point less.

170 for the ED at UVA would have gotten you in, this year. But they over enrolled this year, they might not be so nice next.

Get as high as you can.

I was afraid this thread was about whether the LSAT was necessary or not for UVA/GULC.

Did you just plug in numbers to law school predictor. Because it's not that precise for hard splitters.

I didn't use LSP but I used an LSP mentality. [Distance away from GPA median is equal to distance away from LSAT median].. I think they only use average of 25th/75th though.

No idea what LSAT you need, but if you do rock the test and split (17x), then you'd be crazy not to apply to Northwestern. UVA and G-Town might both be iffy with your numbers, but with a rocking LSAT Northwestern might even offer you a decen scholly. Also, consider part time at g-town if you can find decent employment.

Thanks for the advice Reedie, but my husband has a great job in DC and I don't want to completely uproot him. GULC PT is definitely on my radar though.

I think you can get into GULC FT, especially if you write a "Why Georgetown" addendum explaining that your husband works in D.C. and you want to go the best school in D.C. so you can have a successful career without uprooting them. Such a statement, if done right, mixes the necessary flattery of the school with real reasons for wanting to work/live in D.C. and should greatly increase your odds of admission.

That is, if you get a 170+ LSAT.

lol, I thought this topic was going to ask if taking the LSAT was necessary for UVA/GULC. Sadly, threads asking those sorts of questions don't really surprise me.

I think you definitely need at least a 170 for ED to UVA, but preferably higher.

The LSAT is necessary, but not sufficient, for UVA/GULC.

You have a very good shot at UVA ED with a 170-171.

No. no. no. If you're an in-state resident for UVA, this means your backup to UVA/GULC is William & Mary or George Mason. If you don't get UVA or GULC, please consider other options. From what I've heard W&M got owned very very bad last OCI. If you don't get UVA or GULC, you may still have a great shot at Cornell, Vandy, and maybe Northwestern with a high lsat. Please consider applying to these schools. Your chances at DC will be so much higher at Cornell/Vandy than W&M.

I applied mid November to GULC, with an almost identical GPA to the OP and a 176. Got an interview request, was told I'd be recommended for admission, then held --> preferred waitlist (not special group). Still riding waitlist.

Applied late Jan to UVA and was flat out dinged within about a month.

First, wait till you have your LSAT score in hand to really worry about this. Second, apply as early as possible. Squeaking in right before Thanksgiving is not early enough. Third, apply ED to one of the two. Getting into the 170s and applying in as early as possible still makes this a total crapshoot for you without the ED. Had I gone ED to GULC or UVA (and not applied to UVA in January) I'd probably have gotten in.

those numbers are way too high. 170 might be good enough at both. 172 is probably an acceptance.
