Top Law Schools

currently finishing up undergrad at a large public,
was supposed to be class of '08, but withdrew from the years 07-08 due to personal/family difficulties. gpa is a 2.79, but have a 173 on lsat. where should I apply? safeties? any reply is greatly appreciated

Take a year or two off, get some valuable work experience, and ED to Northwestern.

what state do you live in? where do you want to practice? practice areas?

I have 6 years WE as an instructor at a tutoring company...useless though I imagine..

What is your primary objective? Getting into the highest ranked law school, getting substantial merit money, working in a specific geographic region?
Obviously the top 6 law schools are not realistic options. Cornell, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, WashUStL, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois are worth a try in my opinion since a 173 is well into their top quarter of LSAT scores. Just apply to as many top schools ranked in the range of #13 to #30 as you can afford so long as you would be willing to attend if accepted.

Doesn't really matter what kind of work it is, just something full time post-UG.

i've compiled a list of schools based on the above comments, as well as perusing the other threads on this forum as well as looking at law school numbers/us news stats

Northwestern ED
Cornell
Georgetown

WUSTL
George Washington
UIUC
Boston University

Boston College
William & Mary
University of Georgia

George Mason
GA State
U Florida

would this be a reasonable list of schools that I should apply to? hopefully I could get into at least one of these law schools? also, should I get rid of BU? i was considering emory as well, but I heard that they are notorious in cutting off anyone with less than low 3's for GPA. is boston this way as well? Also, even if I managed to gain some very good work experience with a reputable firm, UVA would be an auto-ding from what I gather?

i definitely second WUSTL and Illinois. Maybe thrown in Washington & Lee?

EDIT* - and also IU-Bloomington since it looks like they've accepted a couple of splitters this cycle. The ones who are waitlisted there seem to have about an avg. 2.7 and 168, so your LSAT can hopefully bump that WL to an accept. Good luck!
