Annihilate or Authenticate my T14 dreams...

So I have totally been lurking this forum forever and I'm just now posting. I'm interested in seeing where you guys think I stand a chance of being accepted and I couldn't wait until June when I had an actual score to post. :(

Sub 3.0 GPA/ 165-170 LSAT (I took the LSAT in Sept. 09 and scored 158...I totally panicked and didn't finish half of the logic games and I'm usually 100% on them. I think it was because I got cocky and stopped studying. It kinda ticked me off because my diag was a 160 So, I retake and June)
I'm a lesbian AA female
I have owned a media production company for the last 4 yrs....3 during undergrad
I graduated in Dec. and I'm taking a yr off to study and retake the LSAT
I'm serving as an Americorps VISTA during my gap yr
Oh and I'm pretty much an A & F student...My first yr of undergrad was pretty great and I had academic honors. My 2nd and 3rd yrs were pretty horrible but business was really successful. :) My last yr and a half was pretty awesome again.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

How far below 3.0 is your GPA and where do you want to practice? I'm assuming you want to go into Entertainment Law? And you got a 158 on the LSAT but you are PT'ing in the 165-170 range or you are shooting for 165-170?

Can't tell you much until you actually take the LSAT again but scoring a 170+ on the LSAT could make your T14 dreams, less than that will result in hurt feelings.

Even with the URM, i don't see T14 happening with your GPA, even if you get your lsat up to a 170.

I knew you were going to ask for the actual gpa 2.73. I was trying to get around it...its embarrassing. I want to practice Constitutional Law and earn a dual degree w/ a Masters in Public Administration. I would like to practice either on the east coast or in Texas. I'm a Texas resident but I'm doing my service in WV right now.

I'm pt'ing 165-170

Not really stuck on T14....I'm realistic. Where do you think I have a good chance?

Get your LSAT and come back. Some URMs with your numbers got NU and UVA this year, but they had 172+.

This. I think with your WE a 172, 170+ could get you into Northwestern. What is the MPA for? I'm a Texas resident as well. I don't think you have much of a chance at UT though. Where in Texas do you want to practice? Apply to some of the regional schools.

I think the only real chance a 2.5-2.8 GPA applicant has at a T18 is to hit 172+ on the LSAT. Anything below that doesn't seem to cut it on LSN. If you can improve your score to 172 though, this should give you some hope.

I want to start a non-profit that provides media classes for kids in inner-cities. Public service is my passion. That's where the MPA comes in. If I live in Tx I would want to live in Dallas.

I'm still confused about what the MPA is going to do but I'm not an expert at that type of stuff. If you want to work in Dallas shoot SMU an app. Maybe Baylor is you are feeling frisky and can handle Waco for a couple years.

Haha I've seen his profile. That's actually kinda what got me thinking if I can get my lsat up I still stand a chance. I was looking at Syracuse and Penn State before him. lol

Not trying to be snarky, but I am not entirely sure why a JD is necessary or even helpful to achieving your goal.

Why law school?

I want to practice law as well. Constitutional Law.

I don't think its necessary to apply to every school in Texas because they all are not going to take you back to Dallas. I think UH is feasible though, TSU as well for the AA at an HBCU effect (I'm applying there as well). I don't think South Texas is even worth the time with the cost of tuition. But good luck.

If you got a 158, what in the world makes you think that you are going to get a 165-170? You already panicked. Why would you ask these questions if you have a history of scoring below performance and do not have the June score yet? It seems like the better option would be to come back when you get a score above 158.

You are right about me waiting before I ask but I beg to differ about scoring below performance. I appreciate your thoughts anyway. Thanks for the comment!

In all honesty, +1. I offered some insight, but these hypothetical LSAT posts are starting to pile up.

Meh, it's cool. It's not easy moving a score that much though.
