I'm a splitter - 2.9GPA with 171 LSAT, from a Top 25 Public School in California.
I wanted to stay in the southern California area, but got a reject from Pepperdine. Still waiting for Loyola. What should I have aimed for?

Stay in UG for an extra year. Add a minor. Raise the GPA. Go to a much better school.

Reject from Pepperdine? Fucking ouch.
You'd be better off leaving SoCal, they love GPA there.

+1, you should have aimed for not SoCal. All the California schools favor GPA.

Thanks for the input! Yea the quick reject from Pepperdine was an unpleasant surprise. What rank of schools should I have applied to? 30s, 40s, 50s?

All of these responses are credited. I wish I had heard this before I applied, and I was in a similar situation to you. Work hard on your whole application package, apply early, and maybe try out the other side of the country. It's not as lame as you think.

I'd estimate you could probably get around 17.5k from Indiana Bloomington.

I'm in the same sticky situation, with a 2.97GPA, even though I'm in grad school (Rhetoric & Comp) with a 3.55GPA. I acutally scored a 161 on a prep test without much studying. So, I plan and taking a PR course during the summer and study on my own with the Bibles.
That sucks that Pepperdine rejected you with a 171 LSAT, which is making me cringe because I want to go to UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, or Loyola. I'm hoping that and can pull off a 175 on the Oct. LSAT's, as my softs are pretty good. What do you guys think about a 175 score. Any chance??

I'm going to reiterate this again, and this is for any splitter who wants to practice in CA.
Be willing to leave the state for law school. With a sub 3.0 GPA and a 170+ LSAT, you have a higher chance at Georgetown, UVa, NU than you do at UCLA, USC.

Thanks again azn. If I do score 170+, I'll now apply to a few schools outside of CA. For sure I'll apply to Georgetown & NU if you think I might have a chance there.
Besides studying for the LSAT's during the summer, I was thinking about doing an internship somwhere to make my app more appealing. Anyone in SoCal know how I can find an internship position for the summer?
