174 / 3.99 HYS?

The Law School Predictor lists me as an "admit" in every school but Harvard and YLS, with "Strong Consider" there. Would these factors be enough to give me a very good chance of getting into Harvard or Yale?
I'm white, middle class male who goes to a state school in the Southeast.
- Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper, after being opinion editor and a reporter the previous year.
- Supplemental instructor
- Bunch of academic honors (Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, Alpha Chi, departmental scholarships for "most outstanding junior" and "most outstanding senior" in major)
- Journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (2nd in column writing, 2nd in editorial writing for region)
- Double major in History and Philosophy
- Retail jobs throughout college while maintaining GPA
I'm thinking about writing my PS about my experience going in front of the school's BoT as a freshman to fight for a student issue and some of the decisions I had to make as EiC of the school paper (interviewing, hiring and firing friends).
Thanks for the help!

Another thing I meant to ask: Do I have a good chance for money at some of the other T14 (namely UPenn, NYU, and GULC)?

I don't think anyone is a presumptive admit at HYS. With those numbers, you have as good a chance as anyone, though. Whatever you write on, make sure you have your drafts torn apart by the smartest people you know. You really need to show then you know how to write and know how to think. Good luck! Congratulations on the numbers.

You should take a look at LawSchoolNumbers.com, if you haven't already. Yale and Stanford are complete toss-ups, but you certainly have a shot at both. You have a very, very good shot at getting into Harvard however -- I'd give you something like a 75% chance there.
You also have a very good shot at pulling lucrative scholarships from most of the t14. Interesting that you listed NYU and Penn but not Columbia. If I were you, I'd be gunning for a Hamilton (full-tuition scholarship) at CLS. I think a lot of people would probably rank CLS w/ the Hammy right behind Yale and ahead of paying sticker at SLS or HLS, and you definitely have a decent shot at it.

4.0/180 isn't an auto-admit at HLS? You serious?

Dead serious. Yale especially prides itself on turning down 180, 4.0s occasionally. Maybe Harvard is more numbers driven, but all three schools have shown themselves to be very picky among the elite students.

There have been at least two 4.0/180 holds this cycle, which have yet to turn into admits.

Thanks for the heads up on Columbia. I just took another look at their profile on LSAC, and they have specialties in the areas I want to go into (Constitutional and PI).

The "Held at Harvard" thread. Lots of commiserating, both from those of us with lackluster numbers (me included) and those with terrific numbers (such as the 180/3.95+ holds).

Based on numbers alone you could go to any law school. If there is no major drawback in your application you will be in! Columbia's Hamilton is very likely. Congratulations on the stellar performance at college!
