Chances at UVA ED and should I do it?

My current stats are 3.0 GPA and 177 LSAT.. I'm hoping to bring up the GPA to about 3.1 next semester.
I'm a little wary about applying to a school Early Decision because it's binding.
However, UVA has always been an appealing school to me (almost picked it over Duke) and I think I'd enjoy it there.
I'm thinking that applying ED may not be such a dumb move..
But I know CCN are more prestigious and if I have a chance at these schools- I might want to try for them or possibly do ED there.. however, I definitely like the feel of UVA better than Columbia/NYU and I'm not particularly familiar with Chicago (but I hear that's where fun goes to die)...however, there is the prestige involved.

I wouldnt ed anywhere. I think you will get into UVA RD with those stats and you might as well see what happens from the T4 on down. You may even get some money and if you ED you will have a harder time.

ED is almost no advantage at schools that get over 20 applications per seat.

FWIW, I applied RD to UVA and was waitlisted. 3.0 / 176 / HYP undergrad.

Sorry that just isn't true. At least two T13's give a significant boost to ED candidates, UVA, and Northwestern. Every UVA ED applicant on LSN who applied before December who had a 170 and over a 2.95 GPA got in. Every single one. Northwestern had similar results.

If you're not applying until next year, I would suggest you get ur applications in as early as you can. Therefore you could potentially ED at multiple schools, seeing as most (if not all) say they will guarantee you a decision within 15 days or so. You could ED at NYU for example, and if you get WLed/deferred/rejected, go for UVA, and then Gtown and so on.
Though if you apply early enough, your LSAT should get you into plenty schools through regular decision.

I thought only UVA was 15 days.

Oops, I stand corrected. UVA's is 15 days. Gtown's second March 1 deadline guarantees three weeks I believe though. So I guess what I SHOULD be saying is, if you pick a school to ED at besides UVA or Gtown, and got WLed/deferred/rejected, UVA and Gtown are still ED options afterwards. Thanks, Desert Fox!

Start out with a UVA ED, then NU then GT. In order of speed of response from schools.
