I applied late (first apps went out in late January). My softs are very good: top 15 liberal arts undergrad, military veteran, working-class background, first-generation college student, managerial work experience for a federal agency are the highlights. So far I am in at Wash U. and Emory, both with money. Waiting to hear back from:
Vanderbilt
Duke
Cornell
Michigan
Minnesota
Iowa
I'm not sure how much the softs will help me at places like Duke, Michigan, and Cornell. At this point, I'm guessing those are waitlists or rejects, but I want to hear from you all about those ones in particular. I figure I may have a decent shot at Vandy at sticker price (?), but probably wouldn't pass up Emory for that. I love the Atlanta area. Thanks in advance.

I think you may be able to get a waitlist at Duke, Mich or Cornell. I see you getting into Vanderbilt.

I already used up like 34 months of the MGIB, so I think I can convert the tiny amount I have left, or else I can use the rest of the MGIB and then hope to get a 12-month post-9/11 extension? I still have to do some research about this. Do you know anything about it?

I think saying he would have been golden at Duke, Cornell, and Michigan is somewhat an exaggeration of his chances.

I have 20% service-connected. Wrecked my back in the Corps. Platoon guide in boot camp/MCT, had a lot of extra packs on my back from non-hackers going up those California hills.

Take a look at vocational rehabilitation, you qualify for the program, but barely. You also may want to have your back reexamined. You country owes you a debt of gratitude for your service, make sure your know what you're owed, and you ask for it.

I got into a top 30 with a 2.2 UGPA and a 155 LSAT, with lots of softs including combat service. I'm have somewhat exaggerated, but not by much...Oh yeah, I applied in October

I think you're in a Iowa and Minn, wait list at Vanderbilt, maybe Cornell, out at the rest.

Auto-reject at Vanderbilt, Duke, and Michigan since you're below both medians. You have a chance at Cornell, but only if they really give you a bump due to military service.
