Will I crack the top14

Post by acdisagod » Wed Feb 24, 2010 12:07 pm

3.6 171 seemed like top 14 bound numbers but so far

Columbia-held until march
NYU ED- deferred to rd
Duke-priority reserve
Georgetown-Special group within prefered waitlist
BC-waitlist....

Waiting on
Penn-with why penn and letter of intent (but suspecting a waitlist)
Cornell-with thoughtful why cornell (I'm hopeful)
UVA-waitlist waiting to happen,

What are my chances at Penn and Cornell and chances I will get off a top-14 waitlist?

Bad cycle so far but on the plus side, I'm gonna set a record for most consecutive decisions without getting rejected.

I don't know about your chances at Penn and Cornell (I would imagine their good, but I would have also thought your chances at GULC and BC were good), but I share your pain with the NYU ED hold.. blah

If you didn't include a Why Duke a decent LOCI could possibly get you in, and if you indicate interest in Georgetown and open a line of communication with their staff that could also move you to an acceptance. I think Penn might let you in, and would be surprised if Cornell didn't.

I would consider ED to UVA (applied rd forget to mention) but I already sent Penn a letter of intent.

I'm very interested in Georgetown so I booked a visit and will stop by admissions. I am also sending a LOCI now and another after my visit. What do you mean by opening a line of communication? do you mean doing what I just described?

Did not do why Duke because I applied before the shit hit the fan at my other schools but I probably will now.

I applied late November/early December to all except Duke. Now I am wishing I applied earlier everywhere. For the next three years you can expect me to join the ranks of TLS members yelling at future applicants to apply early.

Thanks for the very quick responses and advice!

Yes I think sending LOCIs, visiting, etc. is exactly what I meant by communicating with them. Showing interest without being annoying is going to put a face to an application and can only help you get off that waitlist.

hm... I think I might have you beat on most applications without rejections (or acceptances)...lol, four waitlists so far in T14, and expect more to come in

i'd be surprised if you don't get into any T14...if you don't, something is probably wrong with app and you should change it/reapply.

Congratulations on cracking the T14! I think you'll hear more good news yet (from Penn, UVA, or a WL).

I'd personally take Cornell over GULC, though. GULC's class size ITE scares me.

I really like Cornell, but good chance my gf will be in DC. Both are good schools so I'm fine either way.

LOCI = letter of continued interest = letter of intent, that you write after being waitlisted to show continued interest in attending.
