2.85/154 ucdavis
interned at a law firm for over a summer

i know the lsat is pretty bad and more than likely i will retake it
but as for this cycle, what schools do you think will bite

i've applied to most cali schools except of course the big ones (cal, stanford, ucla, usc)

already accepted to tjls but yea
hoping to get into chapman =/

You're LSAT isn't "bad." It's in the 60th percentile. Scoring higher than 60% of the people who took that test is not "bad." Your GPA is what is "bad."

You're LSAT isn't "bad." It's in the 60th percentile. Scoring higher than 60% of the people who took that test is not "bad." Your GPA is what is "bad."

Most people are not smart. 154 is bad. Some decent schools will take a 2.85, but they won't take a 154.

Study harder for the LSAT than you studied at davis and you can get into some great law schools. Continue being lazy and have fun at TJLS.

Whittier, and Western State will probably take you if you want to live in the OC before moving to bakersfield.

Take the LSAT again. I cannot understand how you'd be willing to go to law school but not willing to retake a test.

Don't let these guys put ya down. Your scores are low not "bad." What is low for some schools is 75th for others. It's all relative so choose your schools wisely. I say a good 50/50 split between 3rd and 2nd tier. Apply to all 3rd tier schools offering app waivers. Spend your money on 2nd tier schools.

What you can do to improve your chances:

1) Stellar personal app.
2) GPA addendum.
3) Work experience?

I suggest reading The Ivey Guide to Law School Admissions by Anna Ivey (ISBN 0156029790) it's the best 15 bucks you'll spend. The people on these forms are very informative (and you should consider what they say) but at the end of the day they are not admission reps.

Ultimately, retaking the LSAT is the best course of action. Maybe consider taking a prep course (costly) or use the Bibles. But in my opinion you should spend serious money, a 1500 dollar course and massive studying, could get you a 173 which might land you at a top tier school and eventually a bigger pay check. So whats 1500 when your making 120k? Invest in yourself! It's a better investment than the stock market as we have seen lol!

Shotgun theory: hit on all girls, eventually you'll get one (its sorta like the bachelor's law of large numbers).

Echoing those above me, I strongly advise you to devote several months to intensive LSAT prep and take the exam again, in June, with the October exam as a back-up. Almost everyone here recommends the PowerScore "Bibles" trilogy, and after reading those carefully, get your hands on every released PrepTest. Pithypike has a really good self-study guide on the LSAT prep discussion on this forum. Or, if you need more structure, take a course. I went from from way worse than you (mid-140s) to a 165 (~94th %ile) with a course, and I'm not even done yet! You naturally develop speed over taking many timed sections. Go over every wrong answer on your diagnostics, and carefully try to figure out why it was incorrect, and determine what elements led to the correct answer. This is the most important thing. You really need a much better score to compensate for that GPA. Attending a Tier 3/4 school is generally a horrendously unwise investment. Competition at low-ranked schools is especially vicious, given the fact that you need to be at the very top of your class in order to have a good chance of procuring decent employment after graduation. You don't want to face the situation of being $150,000 in debt with no job three years from now. It's not impossible to have a successful legal career after graduating from a Tier 3/4 school, but it will definitely close a lot of doors for you.

Yale actually accepted someone last year with a 154. http://www.law.yale.edu/admissions/profile.htm So it's not impossible, just highly improbable. Whoever that was must have had incredible softs to compensate for a score almost 20 pts. below Yale's median.

Softs + Handy dandy URM boost.

definitely retaking is the best option
I took the fee waivers for most of the t3/4 schools and only applied to some of the t2
just hoping luck would be on my side and see what i can maybe get into

If I were you, I'd consider some place like North Dakota. It's TTT and they'll probably take those numbers. I'd imagine it places well in that state and I think you can get in-state tuition after first year. Any California school seems like it would be a risky proposition.

Your lsat score isnt that bad, lsat isn't an iq test anyway, most people aren't law geeks who put their entire significance in life on doing well in school and on standardized test just because they aren't good at anything else (no offense to people who fit this description we all put our pride in something i guess I'm also not saying that all the people who did really well on the lsat fit this description although many if not most probably do).

Still i would try to retake after more study to make sure you did your best, after that, then reapply and then decide if law school is the right choice.

i've considered places outside of cali but ultimately, i am going to stay in california =/

Hey Desert Fox you suck. I am pretty sure he didn't ask you your opinion of a 154 LSAT. He got what he got. Let's evaluate his chances on that.

Sure retaking would be smart, 98% of the time retaking is smart. He obviously already knows that. Go talk about what score is good/bad in the prep thread.

+1, dude is straight up rude. OP didn't ask for comments about his crappy score.

OP I don't recommend any Cali schools with your scores. And I don't recommend going out of state as some others have suggested. I think this is a retake or nothing situation.

There's nothing shameful about backing out of this and figuring out something else. I have some ideas about alternatives to law school...PM me if you want
