So I was understandably dismayed when my cumulative undergraduate GPA went from a 3.71 to a 3.64 following LSAC evaluation.
I wrote an email requesting clarification for why this was so and they responded that they weighted grades differently. No specifics were given. I proceeded to call LSAC and request additional clarification as to how they weighted grades and I was told that in their system they might assign an "A-" 3.67 while my university would give an "A-" 3.7. The representative then said this was the reason for the disparity between the GPA on my transcript and the GPA determined by LSAC.

I dont need to tell anyone here how huge the gap is between 3.64 and 3.71 is when applying to the more competitive schools.

After wallowing in despair for a couple of weeks I decided to email LSAC one last time. I received a response that my file would go on hold pending further LSAC review.

I received a letter via snail mail today that my reevaluated UG GPA had gone from 3.64 to 3.70!

That's a great story for you personally, but I think anyone who finds themselves in this situation should read up on the LSAC conversion rules and know what their LSDAS GPA ought to be, down to the hundredths place. That way, you'll have a solid case for writing an appeal letter to LSAC. LSAC does count A- = 3.67, but that should only reduce your GPA by about 0.01 to 0.02. I'm glad it worked out for you though!

My UGPA is 3.7 and my LSDAS GPA is 3.69. I don't think it's worth me trying.

I am really surprised they changed that for you. LSAC is very clear on how they evaluate grades.

Who knows. Perhaps the severity of their screw up in this case is "exceptional".

TITCR, since A+ = 4.33 (but counted as 4.0 at most UGs).

I thought I was one of the few who got a GPA boost from the LSAC. (3.731 to 3.74 isn't huge, but still). A+'s ftw!

I had a lot of profs that didn't offer A+ because "It means nothing", I would always go talk to them after the first day and just let them know that it in fact does mean something for those of us going to law school. My University offered the A+, but it was only figured as a 4.0.

Some universities also recalculate GPAs for MA/PhD applicants, such as Stanford and Princeton, giving A+ = 4.3.

I am really surprised that they changed your GPA, especially since they checked it and explained to you exactly why it was lower. Sadly, I know that my GPA is going down from a 3.71 to a 3.52 because of an NC that I opted for before I decided on law school. Their rules are clearly stated so I have no hope. But, good for you! There is hope for some.
