question:
i have a 3.98 GPA in poly sci, and 2 years of work experience at a top law firm (latham & watkins). I work there full time while going to school full time (at night, im only 21). wat do you think you need to get on the LSAT to get into NYU or a school of its caliber. thanks

If not, get on there and look at all the aps for people who were accepted to NYU for the 2006 cycle.

Anyone else notice a big difference between the LSAC calculator and LSN?

LSN gives me a much more optimistic chance at the schools I'm interested in.

Should I put my school issued GPA or the LSAC issued gpa on my applications?

It could be that people on LSN are more pro-active than the regular crowd so they're more likely to have strong applications. It also could be that LSN people apply earlier in general and that's why. (Or neither of these)

When looking at LSN, I think you definitely have to consider that the data is pulled from a self-selected group. I personally think it is skewed towards the top because of this, but others disagree. Know that there can also be fake posters on LSN, so take what you gather with a grain of salt.

Northwestern / UVA Scholarship?

Post by goose22j » Sun Oct 21, 2007 10:42 am

Anyone have an accurate idea of my chances at a scholarship to Northwestern or UVA?

My LSAT was 173, my GPA was 3.79 (state school)
I have several years work experience, the last four have done marketing/communications for a conservative public interest law firm.

Looking at Law School Numbers, it seems like I would have a good shot at money from Northwestern, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Thanks!

At schools where I am borderline, do yall think that schools will wait until my fall grades come before rejecting me?

For example, at American I've currently got a 3.1 index, which is the average rejection last year on LSN. Though, when I look at those with a 3.1 index and a similar LSAT there were 4 acceptances, 2 rejections, and 6 WL's last year.

After my December grades come in, my index will go up to a 3.2, where those with similar LSAT's got 8 acceptances, 3 rejections, and 10 WL's.

I've currently got a 2.96 GPA overall, but 3.67 over my last 43 hours. That should jump to a 3.05 overall and a 3.70 over my last 59 hours by the middle of December. I also wrote an addendum that described my grade trend and ended it by adding that I expect my grades to continue to show improvement and that I will send in my transcripts ASAP.

Also, is this a good way to examine my chances on LSN? I noticed that there are a few schools that I'm applying to where my Index # gets like 50/50 acceptances and rejections, with some WL's thrown in, but when I enter an LSAT score range similar to mine (160-162, since I've got a 161) the odds drastically improve.

legallybrown:

I go to UT Austin as well. I am a government major and I have a 3.86 GPA and a 171 on the September LSAT. We are pretty darn close in numbers.

Your school list looks very solid and I would venture to say that SMU and U of H are extreme safeties. You should easily get into many of your targets.

My list is:

Reaches:

Harvard
Stanford
Columbia

Target:

Duke
Penn
UT
Berkeley
Cornell

Safeties:

Vanderbilt
Washington U in STL

Good luck this cycle!!

Stephen, I think you should consider Columbia a target for you. Your LSAT is one point below their median but your GPA is above their 75 percentile. Cornell is more of a target/safety and UT is a safety. I think you only need to apply to 1 school outside t14 as a safety if t14 is what you're aiming for.
