172 LSAT/3.65 GPA/ URM Chances?

Post by MSW8510 » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:31 pm

I have a 172 LSAT, 3.65 with poor early grades & straight A's for the past 2.5 years as a math major. I am Cuban-American and have 2 years of experience as a police department 911 operator/radio dispatcher. I'm going to apply to the bottom of the T14, but is it even worth paying $80 each for Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc. with my numbers?

Thanks in advance

Also, I originally scored a 167 on the LSAT with the flu but retook it, & I have an addendum to attest to that.

Thanks for the replies. Looking at LSN can be a little disconcerting, and everyone keeps telling me that applying in January kills your chances.

That's nerve-wracking; good luck to you. Is it typical to wait that long?

It's not unusual for URMs to hear back when the class is almost filled, which makes sense because many URMs have both numbers below median, so adcoms want to know what kind of numerical hit they're willing to take.

I checked the "Hispanic" box on all of the apps; Cuban isn't a URM? That's got me freaking out about my chances.

Harvard is the only one that officially claims to average scores. Yale takes a "holistic" approach to evaluating, and I don't think Stanford has ever commented on their policy

Don't freak out, OP. Even without a URM boost, you still have great stats and will get into a great school.
