Yeah.. If you come close to your performance this semester, you should be in at NYU and CLS. Work harder than you did last semester. Find a 25th hour in the day if you need to, but just get it done. The world looks very different holding a degree from NYU than it does from TTTouro.newyorker69 wrote:AA (born in Africa)

I will say that you are a prime example of why the LSAT just doesn't work as well in predicting our abilities. Not to mention the fact that some people are just not good at standardized tests and do better in a normal testing/classroom environment. Congrats again OP. By the way just shoot out a transfer app to Harvard just to see. It can't hurt and if you get accepted the change from where you are now to HLS would be phenomenal. HLS actually takes a decent bit of transfers (30 or so a year). You might not get in but it can't hurt--and imagine how much it could help. I think you could really help other URMs by posting your study habits etc. in the URM app thread. Good luck!

Seriously? My gut tells me you're in at quite a few top-tier institutions. If biglaw is your dream, I would forget about the NYC thing and take whatever you can get (although my bet is you would get into C or N).

ok now i am amazed, HLS? I was wondering if I should be limiting myself to strictly NY schools. I'm sure if the opportunity was good enough I could justify relocating or even taking a longer commute. Should I look into other states?

I'm not saying you will get in, but why not at least try? You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain.

If you finish as highly as it looks like you might, send apps to:newyorker69 wrote:ok now i am amazed, HLS? I was wondering if I should be limiting myself to strictly NY schools. HLS
Yale
CLS
NYU
Upenn
Cornell
Fordham
and any other T14 school you would even consider attending.
IF you do as well as you did this semester, you might be shocked at some of the acceptances you get. Hofstra and SJU are basically Touro with 20 to 50 years more history. Don't waste your time on them.

I second this request. OP if you have time, that would be a great service to not just URMs but other future law students.kurama20 wrote:I will say that you are a prime example of why the LSAT just doesn't work as well in predicting our abilities. yep. GULC, for example, takes a ton of transfers. If you maintained that academic performance at GULC, you'd be set for biglaw.

Isn't it possible that OP would be accepted prior to second semester grades? I believe a xfer got accepted at GULC before completing the second semester. That would take the edge off.

Pretty sure this is a special GULC program. Still worth doing there, but probably not available elsewhere.drew wrote:Isn't it possible that OP would be accepted prior to second semester grades? yeah GULC will consider a transfer for early action if the application is sent by 3/15/10 and they only need the fall 2009 grades. should i throw my application there? and if i get in there, should i really consider relocating to DC? i figure i should apply there in case my spring grades normalize

Chicago also has an EA transfer.

Re: URM with 4.19 1L GPA - T4 transfer question (NY)
can anyone give me a quick run-down of the transfer process. i want to make a quick timeline of where i should be every month.
is it basically the same as before with submitting all apps electronically through LSAC including my LOR and Fall 1L transcript?

not to derail your thread, but any tips on succeeding in legal writing?newyorker69 wrote:that would be a BIG relief off my shoulders.
i dont even know how this whole transfer process works. i already pre-planned a LOR with my legal writing professor (she said she rarely ever gives out A's because it means your work was perfection and i got an A... im just not sure how she will take it because she is also head of the moot court team and she is a big supporter for our school)

Re: URM with 4.19 1L GPA - T4 transfer question (NY)
I'm sorry to ask this question, I'm just clueless in certain things. Is it really that easy to get into CLS/NYU being #1 at t4? and is it really that hard to get a high GPA from a t4 school? Honestly, just really curious and completely clueless.
I mean there are about 200 schools, if every top 5 students from each school decide to transfer to t14, even t5, and CLS/NYU accept up to a 100 and HYS 50 (just assuming), there is just not enough space for everyone to be a lock there. I mean, if a person put so much effort to pull that GPA, I doubt that person is not sensible enough to try to transfer to, say, Harvard.
Someone shed some light here, please.
