2.70/159 God help me
With a 2.70 with a LSAT of 159 what are my chances? I was born in Iran but I am Armenian (pretty much Caucasian I guess). These are the schools which I want to apply to. I would like to eliminate some ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE schools.

Well if you type those scores into law school predictor you end up with denies at pretty much all top 100... you have to retake and get a lot better or work for few years at least to distance yourself from the GPA. do you really want to go to law school with those numbers? at least work for a few years and you may find something you enjoy without giving up your income for three years.

I would remove UC-Hastings, UC-Davis, Ohio State, and Arizona, for starters.
Sorry, that's too long a list for anyone to go through one-by-one. Get on lawschoolpredictor.com.

i hate saying this but study your ass off and retake the LSAT, work for several years and then go to law school. then maybe you could go somewhere decent. do not waste your money on tier three.KingMotambo wrote:With a 2.70 with a LSAT of 159 what are my chances? Do you know where you want to live? If you do, go to a school in that area. If you don't, wait until you do.
Maybe you'd like my school (Southwestern). We have lots of Armenians.

There isn't enough information here to make a real educated guess. When did you emigrate from Iran? What is the Armenian connection? How long have you been speaking English? Have you and or your family dealt with oppression of any type?? Why are your grades what they are?? Are you just coming out of school now?? or do you have work experience?? Your numbers are suspect, but you know that, so paint a better picture for use and frame your application for use so we may at least guess how the adcom will view you. By the way your chances decrease the longer you wait to apply, so the answer is different from what it would have been had you asked after the Sept LSAT....

There are a few smart choices you have to choose from. You might be able to sneak into Rutgers full time and most likely part time, great thing is you can get in state rates from day 1! Buffalo is another great cheap choice, stay away from the T3-4 privates unless they give you significant money which is unlikely given your gpa.rw2264 wrote:i hate saying this but study your ass off and retake the LSAT, work for several years and then go to law school. then maybe you could go somewhere decent. do not waste your money on tier three.KingMotambo wrote:With a 2.70 with a LSAT of 159 what are my chances? Is there an upward trend w/ your GPA? If you had a LSAT score just a couple points higher you would probably have a much better chance but I bet you can definitely have some solid choices even with these numbers. You should consider retaking it because you could have some great possibilities if you have an LSAT score in the mid 160's, along with an upward trend in your GPA and you will have some good options in the top 100 for sure and probably even top 30-50. Believe it or not if that GPA has a big upward trend and you are distanced from the time of those bad grades then you will solid choices somewhere. Think about a retake though and aim for the mid 160’s or anything above obviously and you will be just fine.

I also wonder how well you've thought this list through . . . University of Wyoming? Are you that desperate to go this year, or would you actually consider practicing in Wyoming? With schools ranked this low you have to remember that you may have to practice locally if you go there. It's not a good idea to look only at whether you COULD get into a school.
Edit: sorry, didn't realize how old this was . . . really didn't need to get bumped

I know how frustrating it is to not get a direct answer from posters, so here's my take. I think everything below USF is what I'd focus on. You may have a few surprises with the others though. If you have a good story about being Iranian, use it.

I agree. Start studying now for the June test. If you raise your score by 5-7 points, you should have much better results. Also, working 1-2 years is also a good idea.vanwinkle wrote:jawsthegreat wrote:Retake or don't go to law school.

159 isn't bad, how hard did you study? did you use the bibles? how many preptests and what was your average? 164+ seems to do it for Indiana Bloomington...170+ and maybe an addendum about your GPA should land you at leasta T20 (maybe a waitlist at a t14, people talk about ed'ing UVA with a 170)...

I don't really understand your list; you're not even in the ballpark of most of these schools, let alone the Top 30ish schools that cap the list. You're also looking literally country-wide.
Right now, you're going to a Tier 3 at best, which means no national placement and no money to go to school. Sort out your geographic interest and see if there is anything there that's plausible. Otherwise, either retake the LSAT or don't go to law school.

Re: 2.70/159 God help me
If you have a strong PS and a good explanation for the grades, you'll get in somewhere. It may not be your first choice, but if this is what you want to do with your life, don't give up. I see a lot of posts on TLS claiming that this school or that school is a waste of time and money. It isn't a waste if you truly want to be a lawyer and you aren't afraid of working hard, and you have no other path to get there. Yes, your numbers are crappy (so are mine, btw) but they aren't the end of the world. My father went to a TTTT. I don't know what your idea of success is, but my father made enough money to take several vacations a year, put his children through expensive private schools, and my family never lacked for anything. I haven't applied to the top schools, but I gave a few in the lower 50 a shot and I'm hoping for the best. As long as you're willing to apply to some of the T3 and T4 schools, you'll get in somewhere. If you wind up at your very last choice, so what. Work hard and stay at the top of your class and you may be able to transfer.
