3.38, 170, should I apply to Georgetown?

I'm applying to GWU and Fordham, won't go anywhere below that on the list and if I get rejected I'm gonna wait, possibly retake the LSAT (was studying with older tests so I was completely unprepared for the newer, harder RC section).

I have no softs besides graduating in three years from an ivy (not HYP) and working through college, summer internship at a law firm/internship as a marketing assistant, some clubs and campus activities that I was consistently involved in, and my PS will be normal. LORs are fine.

I'm pretty confident I'll get into Fordham and GWU (LSN seems to show that very few people with above a 3.3 and a 170 get rejected from either), but should I bother applying to Georgetown? I could apply part-time and give them a schpeel about wanting to gain some valuable work experience that the recession has so far robbed me of. What do you all think?

Also, got a fee waiver from Virginia today. They're flattering me on the off chance that I cured cancer. Wish I could give it to somebody who will use it!

You should be applying to Penn, Mich, UVA, Cornell, Georgetown, and Northwestern if you have work experience.

i don't have work experience. i've been unemployed since i graduated. i lived in LA for three months looking for work, then moved to NYC and have been here for three months, also looking for work.

also, i wouldn't live in any of those places if you paid me. NYC or DC or bust.

Yes, what do you have to lose (other than the app fee)?

You should reconsider before
recession has so far robbed me of
happens in three years. But you didn't ask about that.

Yes you should apply to Gulc. You'll probably get in.

unfortunately, app money is a huge concern. i can barely afford to apply to Fordham, GWU and Georgetown, so I don't want to apply anywhere I wouldn't actually go.

as far as california schools go, I have residency there so if I applied I'd be compelled to go based on the low tuition. but i don't want to live and work in new york for about ten years, and going to law school in CA would make it hard to do that (unless i went to stanford or UCLA, which I won't get into)

Applying to good schools that aren't in good locations, but have good job placement. In this economy Fordham, and GW are big risks.

App fees can't be more than you've been paying moving to cities like LA and NYC without a job though, right? I say make it work, you have the numbers, might as well see.

Seriously? Those softs are fine. I'm not sure how good your chances are, but they probably aren't bad.

My local TTT also claims to have a 90 some percent employment rate. This statistic is notorious for being "open to interpretation," because it does not answer what type of jobs grads are getting. Granted GW and Fordham are much better schools than third tiers... But just take those stats with a grain of salt.

And yes apply to Georgetown.

Those employment numbers are massively skewed for various reasons you can look up in these forums. Fordham/GW are really big risks. Also, I would not rely on the economy improving to anywhere near the levels we saw from 2002-2007.

e: sorry, I forgot about the question. Yes, you should apply to georgetown even if it means cutting back to half a packet of Ramen a day.

What was your major?

The reason I ask is that when I went to an info session at Georgetown, they said they expect engineering/hard science majors to have GPA's that are a little lower, so if you have a science major you probably have a better chance. But either way, with a 170 you at least have enough of a chance to be worth applying.

Also, make sure you put both for which program you want. I think you have a really good chance at part time.

Those employment numbers are mostly crap, so I wouldn't base any life-altering decisions on them. I would also reconsider you're extremely limited choices of location. If application fees actually pose that much of a financial concern, you should probably think not living in two of the most expensive cities in the nation.
