At this point, I am stunned that people constantly ask others for opinions about their cycles, then list GPA/LSAT and say, "I have pretty good softs." Everyone can save themselves a lot of time by visiting this link below.

Yes, because LSP correctly answers everyone's problems.
It's a good resource to have, and I've been a fan of it for a while, but it isn't everything. It's especially got issues with properly considering splitters and URMs. It's not like asking really hurts anybody, and isn't the point of TLS to be where you ask people for advice on such things?
Sounds like you just found an excuse to be condescending toward other people and jumped on it. Good job, dude.

orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
how about every time someone posts their question, someone gives the link to LSP
are you or anyone not named "Dean X" in any position whatsoever to give accurate, reliable information about someone's chances at a particular school? I'm just confused what people are looking for in some of these forums.
"I got a 145 and have a 3.3 with great softs and my dad is AA... WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?!?!"
My point is that no one knows and it baffles me that people still come on here looking for answers to unanswerable questions.
Thanks a lot, bro.

Yes.
You do realize that LawSchoolPredictor.com is something you're citing as giving accurate, reliable information, and that it's created by a TLS poster and not a "Dean X", right? So obviously you're confused about the answer you'd give. You imply a "no" but your original post says "yes".

Wait.... LSP wasn't created by YALE?!?!?! Oh fuck. I am so sorry. I thought it was.
How about this... It will give a much better answer than anything anyone here has to say about any school unless you have legitimate information regarding a specific school's admissions (dean of admissions, student working for admissions, etc.).
Given OUR situation... speaking in aggregate for 0L's (primarily the people surfing the 'what are my chances' forum.... LSP is the most accurate, reliable source of information.
Your argument is confusing. I am
implying a no but i say a yes.... where are you going with this? seriously, get bent. figure it out.
How about this. Let's call a truce. You got your panties in a bunch and wanted to defend the TLS community for their lack of research, and inconvenient and ignorant posts that ask people to chance them when really NO ONE has a clue. I am sick of every other thread on this site about chancing people and I wanted to call your brothers out about it. Now you are cranky. I'd be cranky too if I had to worry about Mark Ingram and stopping BAMA.

So you would rather just delete the entire "What are my chances?" category and just replace it with a link to lsp?
1. obviously people are just looking for a little moral support.
2. lsp is useless when it comes to splitters of any kind
3. lsp doesn't give any advice on where you will and won't get money.
4. This is small but it also doesn't take into account "softs" like WE (a significant soft), upward GPA trends, military experience, so on and so forth...
5. Also, there some quirky schools out there that focus on certain factors more than others. Example: Northwestern and its obsession w/ Work Experience. I would also bet that schools with good IP programs get just a touch more lenient for engineering and comp. science majors since they will probably do patent law, get hired in biglaw and make lots of $$$ and bolster numbers. (i'm speculating there).

Well, yes. Except that lots of people here
do have legitimate information regarding specific schools' admissions, through their experiences in the law school admissions process. For example, I know that UCLA and UT are less splitter-friendly than LSP would lead people to believe, as they have a tendency to reject high-LSAT splitters a lot more often than LSP suggests. When people ask for advice on that situation, I can tell them this, and I know it's true, because it happened to me and a number of people on this board.
You sound like some whiny douchebag who just wants to be right and smug about something, except you're not. You're still a whiny douchebag, though. Good job, bro. Good job.

yeah that was such a hard fought game against a freshman quarterback who never plays
just as an example, LSP is horrible for chancing Stanford, so someone asking about that school would have a TLSer tell him, "hey actually Stanford is more of a blackbox and your idea that it..."
a lot of what are my chances threads are speculation, sure, but as long as the OP asking the question knows that, whats the harm? the threads arent ads, you make it sound as if they pop up on your screen every 10 sec like cialis ads or something lol

When it was time for me to assess my chances I didn't know about LSP, much less whether it was accurate or reliable in anyway. Even still, its always nicer to get multiple opinions from actual people than some number thrown at you by some free program, especially in more complex cases (urm, addendum, WE etc.) This forum is designed to do precisely what you are stunned by: help people who are applying to law schools.
Sorry Bear, but winkle is right, you sound like a giant douche atm.

LawSchoolPredictor is a decent enough predictor for most schools, but I must say that softs can play a large factor (especially for highly ranked law schools). Significant soft factors (or a lackthereof) can play a huge role in determining whether an applicant is accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Don't hate on people for wanting to know where they stand =)

I think it's funny that the OP created a useless thread in order to address how useless some of the threads on TLS are.

OP is an idiot. LSP can provide a decent gauge of someone's chances, but in someways it most definitely fails.
For instance:
It says I'm a "consider" at Stanford. What it doesn't take into account is my GPA (along with a lack of softs) pretty much makes Stanford an insane reach for me. Same with Berkeley.
It says I'm either Strong Consider or Admit at MVP. What it doesn't consider is YP.
It says I'm just consider at NYU, when NYU is probably my best shot at a T10 b/c of how they treat LSAT scores 173+ (with GPAs around 3.5 and higher).
It also doesn't account for in-state at schools like UVA or UT.
It doesn't provide any information on how schools might react to multiple LSAT scores.
Not the best gauge for URM applicants.
Not the best gauge for splitters.
It's a wonderful tool to use, but I still prefer using lawschoolnumbers.com, hourumd.com, and hearing about the experiences of others on here.
If you don't like reading what are my chances threads, don't fucking click on them. Problem solved.

LOL. Vanwinkle layin' it down.
Seriously though, this process is confusing. I am a different one in terms of numbers. My numbers make me a consider at a number of schools I'd like to attend, but I may be just below this 164 cut off people are referencing. I want that info and more.

People quoting LSP as gospel reminds me of how the economy went down the pooper - blind plugging and chugging of numbers.
80% of the decisions are easy to make. A 4.0/180 isn't going to get rejected by Geriogetown. Nor is a nun-URM 3.0/155 getting into Cornell. LSP is horrifically weak with borderline cases - splitters. It is also does a terrible job of taking into account how much being below both medians is the kiss of death. For example consider 168/3.6. Doesn't sound too far away from Michigan's (169/3.7) or Penn's (170/3.8 ) medians, right? However, if you look at LSN graphs, you'll find that its almost impossible to get into Michigan or Penn with a 168/3.6, and yet, LSP tells you that you have a close to 50% chance of getting in.
Like every tool, LSP has its strengths and weaknesses. Getting a second opinion is a good way of figuring this out.
ps - I get the feeling OP worked at AIG FP......
