I left after lunch. The acapella group was good though but I just couldn't stand sitting through more of these things. It wasn't anything against Fordham particularly, it's just that when you go to like 4-5 of these things, they become incredibly repetitive.

oh it was funny that the professor at the mock class cold called on some people.

yeah, but after a while a lot of people raised their hands to give their opinions about matters. But the professor was nice about it, even when some people said dumb things. He kept changing the facts around to get people to play the lawyering game which was nice.

I was reading the binder they sent us. The employment statistics are very impressive, especially with 82% of the class of 07 reporting and 89% of people in private practice reporting.

Geo, could you post those statistics for us?

To those who attended: How was that a cappella group? Any thoughts about Fordham's strengths outside biglaw? Were there many students there who seemed publicly interested?

Thanks guys!

I just got back about an hour ago. Not bad. The Dean came around to everyone's table during lunch to meet/greet.
Yea the acapella group was pretty good.
Not totally impressed with the mock class, but I guess since we didn't have a lot of time explains it.
They didn't really speak much on extracurricular activities.
One of the current students mentioned something about having a mentor 1st year, any one know more about this?

Fordham's website really sucks compared to other schools.

the career person was very impressive and i loved the mock class (seriously if law school is half that fun it'd be amazing). I went in feeling solid about fordham and I have come out feeling amazing. Anybody who is admitted and who missed it should attempt to go to it if there's another one. It was a day well spent although there is no need to get there before 10:15.

i went, but bolted after the first breakout session...all in all, i'm glad i went..my general feelings on each part were:

-the dean's speech was interesting...he seems like good guy/very hands on...maybe its different being a dean at a grad school rather than UG, but he seemed to know every single thing about the school and its programs...he impressed me
-curriculum presentation was fairly dismal...its nothing against the schools curriculum, the presentation was just very blahh
-the mock class was good...i just think everyone kinda needs to take a situation like that with a grain of salt...its hard to actually conduct a class in a setting like that....the professor seemed knowledgable, and seemed like a good sport all around
-acapella was entertaining...i was surprised how good they were
-lunch was good...i sat with a group of guys similar to myself...decent convo going on the whole time....we didnt have a current student sitting with us as other tables did, but the career services woman brought one down to us toward the end of lunch...nice to get a current student's perspective, especially one who seems like a normal person (not one of the 'all i do is study and have nothing else going on in life' students)...he also had a similar background to myself
-the career services presentation was top-notch from start to finish...forgive me for forgetting her name, but the woman really seems to have a passion for her job and fordham law in general (she is an alum of FU law herself)...i now have a better sense of how those employment statistics really play out
-i went to the evening session breakout session....i found it be rather interesting, again maybe because two of the panelists had similar backgrounds to myself...it was a bit reassuring to hear from a current student that your life is not completely over once you start school

all in all, i didnt learn anything too far from what i already knew...but i'm glad i went and got a sense of the more 'collegial' characteristics of fordham....i think the biggest complaint of any current and prospective student is just that fordham looks like a high school...it did not seem to bother me at all, but take it for what its worth: the way a school looks would not really affect my decision...i guess i'm just more concerned with job prospects after graduation

hope the feedback helps anyone who was curious, and let me know if have any questions

oh yea the only other thing that really surprised me (and does not even really have to do with fordham) was how many people were still waiting to hear back from schools....i was very early in the cycle so i guess i'm not really the norm, but we are also not very far away from april 15....just thought that was notable

also, didnt hear much talk about cardozo from other prospectives wanting to stay in nyc....seemed people were throwing brooklyn, nyu, and columbia around a lot more

I wish I could of gone, but I was accepted on Friday and it was too last minute. Did they talk about housing and what the options are? I imagine it would be crazy expensive because of the Law School's location.

They're really nice apartment suites. If you have 2 bedrooms you have 1 bathroom, kitchen and living room. 3 bedrooms and you have 2 bathrooms, kitchen and living room.

Do you share the apartment with someone else? Is it possible to get a single bedroom/studio? I don't mind rooming after my 1l when I know some people but I think for the first year I'd prefer living alone.

The 2008 stats... these guys are insane. how is this possible? The NLJ list says they placed 44%... what would account for the 12% difference?

2.5% of the class made it to California (EDIT: The West Coast) ? I wonder if people self select to stay on the East Coast, or if this represents a greater challenge in placing out west. Still, I am impressed.

Do you think they might be cooking the books a little, though? Maybe counting some doc reviewers, staff attorney's among the 101+ attorney ranks?

Wouldn't that bring down the average salary a good deal?

impossible to have a studio or a one bedroom apartment. Why would you want that anyways? You have your own room and you can close the door anytime you want.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
