I just booked my flight and RSVP'ed for the January 24-25th Open House. I'm not, however, staying overnight with a student host. Will anyone else from TLS be there?

Tentative schedule is posted here.

There is also an Open House March 21-22 and "Admitted Students' Days" for those who can't make an Open House:
Thursday, February 7, 2013
Thursday, February 28, 2013
Thursday, April 4, 2013
Thursday, April 18, 2013

Hi there! I'll be going to the January Open House too. I indicated I was interested in the student hosting program (I'm trying to keep my costs down!) so haven't yet booked any accommodation. I'll be in New York on a visit during that time so I'm planning to get a bus to D.C. and back.

Are you attending both days? I'm thinking about staying around until the optional events on the afternoon of the 25th.

I'll be going to just the Friday session for this week's one. Does anyone know what goes on in these Financial Aid open houses? Do these help determine whether you will personally receive a scholly?

I was thinking about going to the March one but... GULC apparently doesn't give you any money for travel expenses? That's changing my mind pretty quickly.

So what did those of you who attended think? It was my first admits' event and in fact my first real visit to a law school, so I don't have much to compare it against! I'd say it did not make up my mind for/against attending Georgetown either way (sorry, Gtown, even the rubber bulldog, water bottle, and ugly GULC Class of 2016 t-shirt couldn't convince me!). I am definitely open to it, but I wasn't floored and wow'ed and ready to pay my tuition deposit then and there either. The facilities were nice, especially the new Hotung building (fitness center, newer classrooms, lounge area). All of the faculty I met or observed seemed great and I got the impression they put a focus on keeping faculty accessible to students. All of the current students I met raved about it, but I assume that "student ambassadors" for admits' events are a pretty self-selecting crew, so I am not surprised I heard nothing but good things from them.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the immediate area around the law school, though -- didn't seem like I'd want to live in the immediate vicinity because it didn't feel like a neighborhood, I didn't see shops or restaurants, etc. A friend who lives in DC suggested looking at Capitol Hill if I decide on GULC. I felt safe walking back to Union Station metro at night but some current students recommended I not walk to the slightly closer Judiciary Square metro alone at night as the neighborhood's a bit sketchier, I'd walk by a homeless shelter, etc.

I am interested to hear what others thought and what you participated in! Did anyone sit in on a class? I observed Immigration Law & Policy on Thursday morning and it was really interesting but a bit odd that it was actually a visiting lecturer that day from Northwestern's law school! I can't imagine GULC admissions knew that when they added that class to the list! I attended almost all of the scheduled events besides the night out at Kelly's and the Supreme Court visit.

I was only there for a day but I was pretty impressed. I've gotten into better schools and GULC gets a bad reputation around these parts, but I am really liking the idea of going to Georgetown. I liked talking to the current students, who really made it seem like it isn't all that hard to get a job as long as your expectations are fair and you work very hard/get involved. I am looking for a private sector job, but I like that I can do an externship during the school years through OPICS and get some experience on the hill or at a government agency.

I did a lot of research on Georgetown's employment #s after starting to like the school more. Yes, those numbers suck compared to the rest of the t-14, but a lot of that is probably self-selected with the students who are attending likely going for those unattainable public sector jobs. I personally am going for more of a niche type of work in DC, or would go back to my local legal market (Philly) and from what I found I think both of which were attainable through Georgetown. It may be more of a risk, and is a bad idea if you know you want NY Law, but I think any driven student with a head on their shoulders can get a good job from GULC. In short, I'm a fan despite the GULC rep.

All in all, I thought the events were great and I got a lot out of the experience. Definitely an impressive institution. I echo the sentiment of not being swayed either way, however. I can see myself attending the school and being just fine but I can also still see myself choosing another. I was definitely a bit turned off by the surroundings... I thought there would at least be a couple shops nearby but the closest CVS is still kind of a haul. That being said, the campus is very nice and I like that it's compact because it feels like there is a central hub. As someone who aspires to work in the private sector (nyc, philly, or chicago) I am still very wary of the employment outcome with a Georgetown J.D. I didn't really hear anything that assuaged my fears and the emphasis was very much on public interest/government jobs. The current students were wonderful and the professors/alumni/Andy Cornblatt were all great as well. I'm definitely keeping it at the top of my list but since this was also my first law school visit I'm eager to compare it to other schools now.

I was planning to attend, but the cost is too much, plus I'm gonna be in DC a bit later so I'll just drop by then.

Sorry, pal, this is from last year. If you have the dates for this year, though, can you post them here:http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 8&t=223854
