Going to UW ASW this weekend, and I get this email:
"Please join us, members of the UW Law faculty, administration, alumni, and fellow admitted and current students for this welcome reception. UW Distinguished Alumnus, Judge Richard Jones of the United States District Court will provide a special keynote address. ~ Business attire is suggested. Light refreshments will be served."
I googled it and supposedly that means a suit. Really?? A suit? I have one, but will I be the only one?

Wear the suit to the location. Take a glance inside without the jacket. If no one is wearing jackets, stroll on in. If people are wearing jackets, walk out to your ride and grab your jacket.
But yes. Business usually means a suit. Have a good time though!

UW as in Wisconsin or Washington?
I went to Wisconsin last week and nearly everyone was in a suit.
You really can't go wrong with a suit, honestly.

Suit it is then. I've been in grad school way too long...

I'll be attending tomorrow as well, and I was also a bit unsure about this suggestion. I'm glad to know I won't be the only one in a suit.

I'm referring to the reception- not the informational stuff. For that, business casual on down is appropriate, probably.

None of the locals will wear suits. Seattle =\= New York. Slacks and a tucked in button up would probably do. A tie if you're feeling snazzy.
Edit: No tie and a sport coat or blazer is perfect Seattle 'business' attire.

Thanks for the clarification -- I rescind my earlier comment, and double down on business casual for ASW's.
