Stanford Campus Visit

Curious to find out what people have to say about campus visits to Stanford pre-application (or, if post-application, pre-any decisions coming out). I've been once before, but I was barely halfway through UG and didn't really ask the right questions (I'll apply this coming fall). As a result, I'm contemplating heading out there later this summer, but it would be at considerable expense, and I'm only really going to go if I think that from visiting with admissions personnel I'll learn some valuable bit of information that will significantly improve my chances at admission.
Anyone with experience doing this sort of thing at Stanford or elsewhere? Will admissions folks basically give you non-answers when it comes to application tips, or can campus visits give one a leg up? Obviously, with Stanford being a black box as it is, I'm not going to stumble across the magic application secret, but a) will the visit help, and b) what questions should I ask?

Then you shouldn't go.

Well I suppose that simplifies things.
More broadly, then, when schools encourage campus visits, are they solely doing so to sell the campus/facilities/feel? It seems like they would have some incentive to improve the applications of the students with whom they came in direct contact.

Bump.
Anyone gotten anything good application-wise out of campus visits?

If you're in the town of a law school, it can't hurt to stop by and get a feel for the school or find things to talk about in a Why X? essay, but it's not worth it to spend the money on travel/accommodations solely to visit a school before applying. Many schools will pay for you to visit during ASWs, so just wait until then.

I went to visit when I was on the waitlist. I flew from NY (Jetblue had a sale for 20 buck, no kidding).
I walked into office and asked if I could meet with someone. The office had a half door so you can't walk in unless they let you in. The woman in the office (not Dean I forget her name) offered to answer any questions I had through the door.
