UMICH v NORTHWESTERN
I am having a very difficult time choosing between the two. My scholarship offers expire this Friday. Pros and Cons for each? Northwestern seemed to be a small school trying to stay afloat.

I was facing the same decision and after both ASW's there was no contest. I just didn't feel that Northwestern was in the same league as Michigan. Of course, everyone needs to make their own decision based on location, money, and how well the school fits them.nwprspktive wrote:I am having a very difficult time choosing between the two. If Northwestern isn't giving you the right "vibe" what's the allure?

Michigan is the better option for you. Michigan State as well.

Perhaps OP was confused by the lack of a UG campus.sarahlawg wrote:nwprspktive wrote:I am having a very difficult time choosing between the two. My scholarship offers expire this Friday. Pros and Cons for each? Northwestern seemed to be a small school trying to stay afloat.

Among the 2500+ undergraduate colleges & universities in the US, Northwestern's endowment ranks as the 8th largest.
P.S. Perhaps the OP is confusing NU with Lewis & Clark's Northwestern School of Law. OP: Did you happen to notice a big lake across the street ?

I just visited last week and can't imagine how you got that vibe. With that said, its not for everybody. Please withdraw your application so the waitlist crowd can get a shot.

Re: UMICH v NORTHWESTERN
I'm not speaking about the endowment or the size of the actual law school.
During ASW a lot of questions were answered with "oh we plan to implement that" or "we just started a program for that" and "so and so couldn't be here today, so just email them." (PI interest mtg/$ mtg)
I found it odd that there was no human available to present for an hour about financial aid, but instead someone recorded their message in advanced.
When I asked about the 'concentrations' that were listed on the website I was told, "oh they just started that, no one really does that."
The career services presentation was similar...questions about OCI and being hired outside of Chicago weren't really answered.
I thought the professors were great in the mock classes and the PI professor seemed knowledgeable.
If I was clearly against Northwestern, I wouldn't be confused. It was my dream school but ASW led to reservations. I just want to make sure I'm not misjudging the law school based on ASW.

And Michigan's is 7th.CanadianWolf wrote:Among the 2500+ undergraduate colleges & universities in the US, Northwestern's endowment ranks as the89th largest.

Re: UMICH v NORTHWESTERN
That settles it then. If Northwestern's endowment has fallen from 8th to 9th out of 2500+, then clearly it is a sinking ship. Jump to #7 as fast as you can OP.
@D-Rocca: I think that you missed the point of posting endowment information. Please reread the original post & you will see that Michigan's is not relevant unless willing to help "...a small school trying to stay afloat".

Re: UMICH v NORTHWESTERN
It was a pointless post in the first place, what does endowment have to do with choosing between peer law schools? Sounds like you're just mad bro.
Ya still doesn't make sense.

So what is making the decison tough is the slightly better chances at Chicago? IDK if that is worth going to a school that you don't like for. If you really can't decide, go to the cheaper one all things considered.

Apparently they couldn't hose the BP stink off the law school during ASW.bjsesq wrote:AWESOMEnwprspktive wrote:Northwestern seemed to be a small school trying to stay afloat.

Re: UMICH v NORTHWESTERN
Michigan has an amazing sales team, law buildings, and is full of 20 year old undergrads at Ricks dance club to hang out with and historically a better legal reputation.
Do you want to live in a real city and great area and work in Chicago--then Northwestern is the clear choice.
Schools will give basically the same options--> if you want Chicago then NU may be slightly better and if you want NY then Michigan--otherwise do you want to live in undergrad happy land or a major downtown area of Chicago?
