The general advice seems to be not to give notice at a current firm until after conflicts clear at a lateral firm. I'm wondering, has anyone given notice before conflicts cleared and did any trouble come of it?
My issue is that the timeline I'm currently looking at will give me less than a week to move across the country and settle in before starting my new firm. Basically, it's looking like I'll move on a Wednesday and start the following Monday. I honestly need a bit of a break in order to start fresh at the new firm. If I give notice sooner, I'll have more time for the move and to take a break to refresh and reenergize. How bad of an idea is this?

Re: Notice Before Conflicts Clear?
Ask your new firm to set out the start date 2+ weeks (or however long you need) after conflicts clear. Just explain that you want to be courteous and give proper 2 week notice to prior firm, but are waiting til conflicts clear, and then you have to move and everything. They will understand.
