Switching practice for prestige?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:52 pm

I'm a fourth year at a small firm in a tertiary market. Most firms in town are none that anyone outside of town will ever have heard of.

I've been made an offer at the regional office of a well-known firm (regional powerhouse at the nearest secondary market). Ordinarily I'd jump at the prestige of the firm - a few years there would open a lot of doors that I'd never get access to otherwise. The problem is, it's a completely different practice group - one that I know absolutely nothing about, and, frankly, have no interest in.

My long-term goal is to get out of the crappy region where I am now and into a medium or large firm in said secondary market. Spending a few years at this firm gets me the name recognition and prestige my resume is lacking. I might even be able to transfer to their office in the secondary market down the line.

Should I take it?
