Lateraling to Los Angeles

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Dec 11, 2019 12:44 am

I am wondering if anyone has any experience lateraling from New York to Los Angeles. I am trying to decide whether to rotate into litigation or M&A. I do not mind the work in either practice, but prefer litigation. However, it is important for me to have the flexibility to leave New York if I do not love it. My issue has been that everyone says that litigation is prestige driven. Based off what others say I question whether I have enough “prestige” to lateral if I pick litigation. I am currently working in a V50 in New York and litigation is not their strongest practice group. I went to a T20 school, good grades (around top 10%), no clerkship, no law review, but I was on the board of a “lesser” journal. Also, significant links to Southern California.
