Reaching out to a Partner re: lateral application

Hi TLS -

I am considering submitting a lateral application to a firm that I have worked across the table from on a transaction. I am junior/mid-level. The partner on this transaction from the target firm I think will generally remember me (but there was no special interaction or in-person meeting). Can anybody weigh in on the utility/risk of emailing this partner to inform them of my application and express interest in joining their team?
