Yeah I know, right? I think they should look more at your past income level and your parents' income level. This system could benefit a 25 year old who has rich parents but no savings of his own.

At this point there isn't much you can do though.
Yes you're right, not much we can do....and the story's the same for any UC now, basically. But I think we (esp. CA taxpayers!) have some right to bitch and moan about it

How does that work exactly? How do they see your savings, etcetera... because I am in the same boat... Spent conservatively all of my life, now I have enough cash to pay for two years of law school straight up. I don't want to be punished for being responsible...

Yeah. But then again, name a year when the tax system was ever fair.

On top of that, let's not forget that Hastings *almost* lost all of its grants. Even though funding's restored, I won't be surprised if the grant department turns out to be really stingy this year.

The need access application. If I had it to do over, I probably would've transferred my savings to my parents. But I am not sure it would've helped without UG debts. Last year there was a person with no debt + like $2,000 savings, and they didnt get a grant.

Maybe I've lived a life of privilege or something, but do most UC students take on a lot of debt in undergrad? Hastings is probably made up of around 66% UC undergrads, and supposedly 75% of all students get grants. I know COL is high in CA but the UG tuition at the UC's has historically been quite low.

Does anyone know if they provide any $ for ASD? Also, is anyone going to the 3/20 ASD? I'm leaning toward that day.

I'm planning on the 3/20 ASD as well. I don't think they give out $ there.

I meant do they provide money for ASD like a lot of other schools, not do they give out financial aid money there... (unless I am misreading your response)

Nope, I think I misunderstood you. Did you mean reimbursement for traveling to the ASD and whatnot? I didn't read about anything like that, and apparently they are currently quite poor anyway.

Just kind of a fun, random question here, but...how is Hastings' bookstore? Any cool Hastings gear? The online store shows a great selection for women but only one sweatshirt for guys, a couple hats, and a t-shirt. Any idea if the bookstore on campus has more/better Hastings merchandise? Thanks! :D

I just got a phone call earlier and where they congratulated me on my acceptance and told me about ASW. Did anyone else receive that call?

I was admitted LEOP about a week ago and I'm really excited about the prospect of going to Hastings. But I'm wondering how the student body as a whole treats the LEOP students. I don't want to feel like some second class citizen because I got in for different reasons than a traditional applicant. Any thoughts from current Hastings students?

I don't even know who the LEOP students are. If you don't announce yourself then nobody will know. Even if people did know, most of them would not treat you differently...it's not like people are opposed to LEOP in the first place.

I did! I was in line at Chipotle, though, so I didn't answer. Kinda glad I didn't. That would have been awkward.

Yea I didn't answer it either! It was kind of weird though.. I don't know why they called just to tell us about ASW, I mean that could've been sent in an email. However calling to tell us we got accepted would have been way more awesome..

It seemed like the student who called me was more just calling to answer any questions I had and mentioned ASD at the end. But I gotta admit... it was a nice touch.
