On hold at FIU. 164 and 3.14. Those arrests must have really made them not like me.

IN AT NOVA, ST THOMAS AND HOLD AT UM...I WISH FIU WAS FASTER. I applied to them 1 week before the others. So frustrating.

Accepted yesterday via small envelope with April 1st response deadline. That seems a tad early.

hey lawschoolgiant have you heard about fiu pt yet?
im in a similar situation. 155/3.07 waiting to hear back about the pt program.
only thing is im still waiting on lsac to "receive" my last two rec letters to complete the app.
hope to hear soon because waiting makes it hard to focus on the rest of life.

Re: Anyone hear from Florida International University?
gatortim, are you going to stetson then?
redvelvetcake, thanks for the well wishes. where are you going to attend now?
lawschoolgiant, i think the part time is actually more competitive this year. the other day, i saw that they only plan on accepting 50-60 part time students while accepting around 200 full time students. this is a big change because it looks like in years past it was a 2:1 full time to part time ratio. i applied part time but emailed the admissions asking to be considered for both. they said they would put my request in my file and take it into account when they review it. you might want to email them and do the same... can't hurt!
anybody else hear back from FIU? im still waiting on my last rec letter to go through so i can find out where i will be in august.
its coming down to the wire here.

congrats man. great school. everything i read about stetson makes it look like a really solid choice. i have to believe it'll be back in the top 100 soon... it sure seems better than some of the schools in the 90s right now!

Re: Anyone hear from Florida International University?
Toured FIU law yesterday. All in all I was left with mixed feelings which is porbably going to lead to my withdrawl. The facility was pretty nice. It was very new, clean and tech advanced. Did not have the historical charm and architecture if that's what you're looking for. But all in all, it would be a nice place to learn and study. Two nice in-house courtrooms and a pretty nice grand reading room. I hated the area of miami it was located. Very congested (which is most of miami) but lacked the Coral Gables charm of the U campus. However, my biggest feeling was that job prospects out of FIU would be tough to come by. There was a nice career placement center located within, but I noticed nearly all past graduates were placed in the public sector. So...conclusion, If I already lived in Miami and wished to practice in the Miami public sector, this would be a great opportunity/alternative to the high U of Miami price tag. You have to conceed that big corporate law is going to be hard to come by (maybe not impossible) but much harder when competing against U Miami and UF grads. But given that I live in Orlando, I just can't imagine going through the hastle of moving my life (I own a home FYI) to attend FIU. I'm looking at either biting the financial bullet and going to Stetson...which is the area of FL I want to practice, or attending FAMU on a full ride and either transfering after my 1L or getting a free law degree (albiet not an amazing one) from FAMU. Hey, there's always the JAG corp. Still going around in circles on this one. Just my thoughts..

Hi! Did anyone receive an email with an "applicant status password"?? I don't know what to do with it or where to use it? They didn't provide an explanation or a link.

I got a student number but it was related to the FASFA I submitted.

Re: Anyone hear from Florida International University?
I went to FIU for undergrad. Graduated Fall 2009.
I went through the law building every day because it was a shortcut to the gym. I personally know two students that go to FIU Law. One thing that is good about FIU Law is that most of the students are nice. Definitely not indicative of Miami as a whole, but at least the people you'll be around at school will be kind.
To comment on the area around FIU. There is nothing. It is in the middle of a residential area. There is nothing within walking distance. Let me rephrase, nothing fun. No bars, no clubs, no entertainment. Lots of food options though. The good thing is that the Turnpike is right next to FIU and can take you anywhere or you can drive 5 minutes down 8th street and get on the 826.
Unless you have a full ride or close to it, I would recommend going to UMiami over FIU for law school. I hate UM, but I also will concede that your employment prospects are far better if you go to UM. If you want to do public interest or local government work then FIU might be good for you, but if you want to do Biglaw or state government/federal government work, go to UM.

I agreee but 120k vs 45k is a huge difference in an uncertain market, but it all depends where you want to go.

Re: Anyone hear from Florida International University?
Why do people keep thinking that all the doom and gloom of the past 2 years is going to continue forever? It's not!
Things will get better. The economy is already showing major signs of improvement. Investment is way up and the housing sector is much improved. Unemployment is still high and will probably stay that way until the end of the year, but by 2012/2013 things will be much improved for everyone.
So if you are worried about going to UMiami (or any other higher priced school) because you think it is going to be "an uncertain market" when you graduate, dont worry. Things will improve.

I love the optimistic sentiment, but the reality is that this is uncertain. I am on hold at UM so, I don't have the choice either. I would love to hear from one of them. All I have now is a very large scholarship offer from St. Thomas University which is not a school I am very interested in attending.

Uhh yea, dont go to St Thomas. Lol.
Well, whatever you decide to do will be best for you. If FIU is your choice then you will be happy. Its not a bad place at all. It might just take a little extra effort to get a good job after graduation. But, if my optimistic opinions play out like i think they will, then you should be ok.
