You all need to be happy you are even in...some of us are dying just to get acceptance letters. I'll pay whatever they want and worry about the debt when the bridge needs to be crossed.

+1. need-based aid is a sham. i have significant undergrad debt and make $8.20 an hour, but still nothing. depressing but ultimately unsurprising. still considering nyu tintin?tintin wrote:just got my big fat offer of $0. the assumed annual student contribution they have listed for me is $693,439. how can that be possible.....i make $10 an hour.
at the beginning of this process i didn't know how much of a joke need-based aid is in law school school, very depressing.

I got $62500 but I'm going to withdraw today since it isn't enough to sway me away from Penn, Harvard, or Chicago.

Yep, $0 from NYU for me too. And I qualified for over 100k in grants for private UG. Gotta love the complete BS that is "most of our students receive some form of financial aid..." Withdrawing promptly.

No disrespect to those who are still waiting to be admitted, but looking down the road at $210k in debt is pretty scary. The honeymoon of being admitted only lasts so long.

yes, still considering, but only because neither UVA, Penn, or Chi has given me any kind of $$ offer. if one of them did it would definitely sway me, but I doubt I will get money anywhere if they all consider my parents income.facetious wrote:

ZERO
to make things worse, i couldn't even open it up myself, because flash doesn't work on work comp or phone. $210,000 is quite a bit of debt.
withdrawing soon!

I think the qualm is with the misnomer of "Need-Based Aid." I will have no income and both my parents are on unemployment, yet I received nothing. If that is not needy, then I don't know what is considered true need. Not complaining about NYU in general, I feel blessed to have the option to attend there. Just call it what it is, please.
Also, the poster that quoted the "most students receive some form of aid..." reference, I believe Stafford Loans are technically considered need-based aid, so that is where they probably get their "most" from.

It's not so much that I feel entitled to an award from NYU, more that it's just a bummer to not be able to consider it if you have an offer from another school that would be significantly more prudent. Like--if I like NYU slightly more than Chicago, but Chicago is going to be 70% of the cost, is it smart to consider NYU? Probably not, which kind of sucks. But no big deal in the long run, I suppose.

+1 What really angers me is that they made us go through the song-and-dance of divulging all of our parents' financial information as if need-based aid actually existed. What a farce.facetious wrote:+1. need-based aid is a sham. i have significant undergrad debt and make $8.20 an hour, but still nothing. depressing but ultimately unsurprising. still considering nyu tintin?tintin wrote:just got my big fat offer of $0. the assumed annual student contribution they have listed for me is $693,439. how can that be possible.....i make $10 an hour.

Re: In at NYU!!
Let me clarify, I am not complaining. NYU is an incredible opportunity and I will take out the loans in a heart beat, if I decide to go there. I am not worried about being able to pay back debt with an education from NYU. Just be honest on what it is, don't make me jump through loops to get all my parent's information when you are not really going to take it into consideration. Rant over.georgina wrote:CG614 wrote: I think the qualm is with the misnomer of "Need-Based Aid." I will have no income and both my parents are on unemployment, yet I received nothing. Again, not complaining, just making an observation.

Did everyone who heard about $$ (and got it or not) apply for a Dean's Scholarship? I applied for need-based aid (and merit, i guess... if they consider that) and haven't heard back.

Is anyone writing to other schools (particularly schools that have treated you oddly and have already had six months to make a decision) to let them know that if they want you, they'd better hurry it up?nixxers wrote:I asked, no answer yet - i'll let you know what they tell meEijiMiyake wrote:Has anyone asked about an extension for the 4/2 deadline?
