UNC is my #1. Submitted application 11/18. Just read that decisions start rolling out right after January. I need some place to lounge to help the crazy long wait.

Quick facts:

*40% of lawyers in NC are UNC alumni (strong market for networking)
*In-State tuition has risen by $3,000 over the last 3 years
*All scholarship notifications are sent out by the end of June

USN Ranking:
2000: #22
2001: #23
2008: #38
2009: #30

Anyone else have UNC at the top of their list?

I have a home now! Thanks for making this thread. Just got the "gone complete" email this morning. It was nice hearing from them finally, now I don't have to keep stalking by the law school building to see if there is anyone inside.

UNC is my #1. Got the complete email this morning, too (after submitting a month and a half ago...boo). OP, are you in state?

I also received the complete E-mail this morning, with a note that I had also been accepted as in-state for tuition purposes, which was awesome news.

from the sound of it, we're all in for a very long wait. glad to know they're at least sending completion notifications. hopefully i'll get mine soon!

UNC is my #1!! I went complete yesterday. Of course, I am out of state with median numbers, so I don't expect a favorable decision. At any rate, it looks like we're in for a looooooong wait. Let's be friends!!

Top 3 for me as well, probably #1 in reality. Hard to beat their networking capabilities in NC, and for the price...well, I'd have to get some very lucrative offers from other NC schools to even compare.

Anyone know how the UNC alumni network in the RTP area compares to Wake's?

Nice to meet other UNC hopefuls! Just got the complete email, considered as an in-state applicant.

I'd caution you on putting it off for too long. It takes about 1-2 months to go complete. Based on last years cycle, the trend seems like they review applications based on complete dates. Just something to keep in mind when considering potential $$$, as most of their offers are made by end of March.

What is your policy regarding LSAT scores from applicants who have taken the test multiple times?

We consider the highest of two scores for admissions purposes.

UNC should pretty much hold the entire state. In addition to its reputation, UNC has a larger alumni network.

Did anyone go to their open house today? The student panel was a little down on job prospects from the impression I got but the tour was great. Definitely in my top 3.

Top 3 for me and most likely destination.

I'm a little concerned with the job prospects in NC. The state pumps out roughly 1,265 new graduates each year:

Duke: 228 (only 19 co 2008 students stayed in NC)
UNC: 261
Wake Forest: 154
Campbell: 122
Charlotte: 210
NC Central: 169
Elon: 121

UNC is probably the Creme De La Creppe in NC considering that Duke grads go elsewhere, but I can't help but feel that the NC market might be a bit saturated with 1000 new graduates looking for work every year.

Continuing with the research, any links or insight into the NC legal market would be appreciated!

Actually I'm an undergrad at UNC and they said at a thingie last year (kinda pre-ITE though) that NC has a shortage of lawyers, especially in relation to other states.

As for your concerns- UNC is generally number one in NC. If you want to work in NC it's pretty unbeatable. Duke and half of Wake leave the state. Elon and Charlotte law degrees don't seem to mean too much yet. NC Central grads tend to look for local level jobs. Campbell and half of Wake are your only REAL competition for jobs out of UNC. Not to say you'll find something easily, but it isn't nearly as bad as it looks with so many schools in the state.

Open House dates are on their site, I don't particularly feel like looking right now myself. i'd suggest trying to go if you can, definitely made me feel better about UNC, which IF I am admitted, would be my most likely destination.

Thanks! Definitely helpful. A very informative and well-structured report.

But it was written before the economy took a nosedive, considering the report mentioned a 'shortage' of lawyers. Also I don't agree with the authors argument of reducing legal barriers into the NC market, we need the jobs!
