Has anyone seen that as of April 19 (after the decision deadline), there is a new moratorium on cats for Verrano and Palo Verde? This is a big issue for me as we have 2 cats and had budgetted to live on campus, but now none of the 5 complexes will allow cats. Is anyone else having the same issue?
I called Housing and they seem very inflexible about it. I understand that if they make one exception, they will have to make more, but this sudden decision comes at a very awkward time, especially since we'd been reading all along that up cats are allowed as long as they are kept indoors and vaccinated and I had even called housing to confirm. Any ideas on what to do at this point?
I agree that it is unfortunate that not even one of the complexes allows cats. People won't give up their pets and I don't blame them.
I would suggest posting here and on the facebook group to see if others in the same boat would be interested in a roommate. If you share a three bedroom the costs won't be that much more. Also contact the housing office. They may have a list of people looking for roommates.
The only other thing I can think of is to see if Nasreen can adjust your housing budget to account for the additional cost of having to live off-campus in terms of more loan eligibility.

Verano Place has traditionally allowed cats (and in fact still did for this year), but they've decided now to stop with it. As much as pets are fun and great and everything, there are some people who just let their cats roam free around the community. I'm sure they're in the minority and that most people keep them indoors and everything, but ever since one used the wood chips next to my front door as a litter box, I've been more on the "get rid of the cats" bandwagon. If people kept their pets in their apartments I wouldn't have a problem, but when they're pooping outside my door... it's personal.
P.S. In contradiction with what I just said, I do think it's a little hypocritical that campus housing allows children, but not pets. Kids are at least as loud and destructive as any domesticated animal.
P.P.S. you can probably have a cat if you keep it inside and don't let anyone in housing know about it

They just asked for a statement of intent to register deadline on 4/15, no deposit. I haven't heard about a 2nd date for a deposit or further commitment but most schools have another commitment date in June.
Good luck with the WL!

also, we get our housing offers early next week?
I expect the same LSAT median but a slightly higher GPA. Hoping for higher numbers in both
!
When are they releasing that info, anyways? The SIRs were due 2 weeks ago. Last year they revealed the numbers immediately after SIRs were submitted, I believe...

I think Dean Chemerinsky mentioned that Irvine will maintain the same GPA/LSAT or better. We'll see how that spans out in a few weeks.

Yeah, he did say that a few times, but of course it'd be nice to see it with your own eyes.

You can have equal admirations for two schools on top of your list, yet forced to pick one. Or one of them could have always been your favorite. It's not a baiting question to make you brag, and I certainly didn't imply that.

UCI Law website just updated - "Now accepting transfer applications for Fall 2010"
What does this mean?
And where are the stats for the incoming 1L class? They were available by this time last year.

Now I'm getting worried...if the numbers were good wouldn't they have already released them?

I think it's possible.
Jeff Klein wrote this on the facebook.
"Learned today amount of fin aid can be adjusted if you will be living off-campus. Actually increases the amount of loans avail. by quite a bit."

This is fantastic news. I hope that by the time all the T14 waitlists leave the pool the median LSAT and GPA will be equal to or greater than the inaugural class.

Wow I am impressed by the diversity combined with the strong numbers. That is awesome. It does look like they over-enrolled a bit since 93 submitted SIRs. So much for the Negative Nellies out there who said the numbers couldn't be maintained with the 50% scholarships.

Very cool. It'll be interesting to see what sort of transfer aps they get - it's a great move financially, get some paying students in the 2L class.
