I don't think Michigan rejects from the ED pool.
So really, when they say that they'll give you a decision by date X, what they really mean is that they'll either (1) give you a decision by date X or (2) tell you by date X that they can't give you a decision just yet.

Isn't that a bit strange, given that one of the main selling points of the ED program is that you're supposed to get an Early Decision?

The premise of ED is that in exchange for your dedication to their program and guarantee that you will go there if they let you in, they will give you an early decision. However, if they don't give you a decision early, they don't lock you in, so the whole thing is nullified.

With Mich, they say that the reason they give you an early decision is that you have to move in in May/June, so they want to give you some extra time to get things arranged.

I predict a Saturday decision based on the fact that this is what they did last week.

Dear Michigan,

I thought we had something good going on. You gave me a fee waiver, you circled nice things on the letter and got my hopes up. I was equally excited and applied. I thought we had a good time. Now I get nothing except a status checker? I thought this was going to grow into something special and not just a one night stand. You are my everything come back to me.

Are the numbers in your profile accurate? Trying to figure out what criteria they used for the fee waivers.....

Gotcha. There is one anecdote (in-state, non-URM) on LSN from the 2008-2009 cycle, that you can take heart from. :)

Michigan story in emoticons: :D :) :( :x    :|

Full length feature:
I was so excited to apply and get my application in to you Mich. Then you allowed me to ED late in the game. I was happy for so long waiting, then I was snubbed first round. I admit, I got angry, and then embarrassed thinking I had a chance. I saw you admit someone with my numbers and I was shocked! I thought playing hard to get would work, but you didn't react or chase or anything. Now I sob, alone, without you.

I did see that. However, I am a realist with pessimism swirled in so I have low expectations.
