Re: Vanderbilt 2013
Just got my scholarship letter before the tomorrow's seat deposit deadline, $5K per year need-based. And suddenly realized that in my application I crossed out the box with a NO answer to the question, whether or nor I'd like to be considered for a merit-based scholarship!
Do you guys think it'll be a good idea to e-mail them and mention that I do want to get a merit scholarship? Isn't it too late? Will they even consider my request given that I am sending my seat deposit tomorrow? Any advice, TLS..

worst that happens is they say no. It probably wont get you anywhere but it's worth a try.biglll wrote:Just got my scholarship letter before the tomorrow's seat deposit deadline, $5K per year need-based. I'm with ya ... I have all but given up knowing for some time! Looking at LSN from last year, cycel time doesn't look promising for us to know before mid-Maypertristis wrote:Wow, my completion date is a month behind yours ... should I just forget about my app until late May?

It's great to see you guys getting such positive press. Your project seems like it's picking up steam.observationalist wrote:G'luck to those WL'ed. Keep staying in touch with the school, visit when you can, and in the meantime contact the other schools you're looking at to see if they'll release similarly detailed information about job prospects. Vandy and a few others are leading the charge but we need all of you to jump on board and start contacting the schools as well.
I'd also encourage those of you with acceptances to contact the school and see when they're going to release 2L summer employment information. It may be too late in the summer for you to make a decision on it, but it's worth letting them know you're interested so that they won't wait to get that information out. They've done it the last two years (with the Recruitment Handbook they publish) and we have high hopes they will continue publishing this information even though the job prospects are diminished from the previous year.

Anyone have any tips about how to approach contact while on the WL? The profile here says calling once a week, should I really call that much? What should I say? Should I request an interview?

4/19 ding.
3.4/162, no shocker, but at least now it's official. Best of luck to all.

I think once a week is a lot, I've been told by admissions staff every 4-6 weeks. Also, they won't "interview" you but they will meet with you and answer your questions.Ryou wrote:Anyone have any tips about how to approach contact while on the WL? Do we know how many people are on the waitlist?

Vanderbilt seems to waitlist many applicants. To really distinguish yourself, it's important to keep in touch and demonstrate your interest. Good luck to everyone else, hope to see you in NashvilleMatteliszt wrote:check out LSN, quite a few.Do we know how many people are on the waitlist?

Re: Vanderbilt 2013
Withdrew last week, and today got a hard-copy snail mailed letter (dated April 15, postmarked April 16) on nice paper with a real signature from Dean Morton acknowledging my withdrawal in two really nice sentences.
Good form, Vandy. Definitely sad I won't be attending... the administration (and students, I'm sure!) really do seem lovely.
Good luck to those still waiting!

4/19/10 - 163/3.4 - WL will be riding it to the end, even if it means getting a call the first day of classes.

Congratulations, that is quite an accomplishment with those numbers. Mine are similar and I am still in the game.
I thought I was auto-ding. I am going to see what I can do. Those who were talking about calling - Where did you get that info?

Thank you rawlsian. Check out the upcoming ABA Journal podcast on May 3rd... it's with our rising Vanderbilt 3L, the Dean from Northwestern, Elie from ATL, and the current Chair of the ABA's accreditation committee. I'll send a link once it's available.Rawlsian wrote:It's great to see you guys getting such positive press. Your project seems like it's picking up steam.observationalist wrote:G'luck to those WL'ed. In the meantime g'luck to those of you riding the WL. Definitely visit if you're committed to staying on. To those accepted and trying to decide, be sure to contact Career Services and ask them for updated employment information. They've been great the last couple of years but even the more transparent administrations need to be reminded about the role it plays in your decisionmaking process, especially now that the only available information (Class of '09) refers to the OCI season before firms started reducing summer programs. Hopefully some of you coming in next year as 1Ls (either at Vandy or elsewhere) will feel like volunteering some of your time to keeping this project on a roll.

DM 4/26.
From the looks of the last few pages, I assume that calling for a decision is fruitless?
UPDATE: Indeed, calling WAS fruitless. I must admit that I'm not terribly keen on rigid, inflexible rules, and it seems unreasonable that schools like Vandy won't (no matter what) give decisions over the phone, considering that they know how very late in the cycle their decision is coming.
