Also, I got to meet Miss GA, who is going to UGA Law next year, which was cool.
UGA might be worth considering after all - they have a much better looking student body than Emory (assuming I get in).

+1. But yeah haha I was around. There was someone who went to my UG there, so I don't want to out myself, but I sent you a PM.tinyone wrote:The reception was nice, I liked that they didn't lie to you. They made sure to emphasize that if you know you want to practice in Georgia that UGA was your best choice. They didn't pretend that the school would go beyond Georgia, but at the same time the speaker did have a good point about UGA grads clerking for the Sup Ct.

Vandy does well, RE: 2009 NLJ 250 stats VERY WELL and the South would be it's primary market, no? (Vandy reports 43% of their 2009 graduating class as being employed in "the South") ... I know we're looking at the same numbers; that 47.1% of their class in NLJ 250 firms had to have gone SOMEWHERE. Suspect indeed.rad law wrote:The problem is that while ATL firms do recruit from UGA, UGA only sent 15% to NLJ250 firms in '09, meaning only about 38 people out of 240 got these jobs. I specifically asked about Vandy, and they tried to give me the impression that UGA=Vandy in ATL. Is this true? I'm not completely sure, but I am suspect.
I can definitely understand their emphasis on value. I truly believe that in-state at UGA is up there as one of the best value legal educations you can get. But I am looking at the stats you are, and I agree. Vandy's home market is the South. I'm not sure if UGA sends numerically more applicants to ATL biglaw, but even if so, this might be more due to Vanderbilt grads' self-selection than any sort of UGA advantage.missvik218 wrote:Vandy does well, RE: 2009 NLJ 250 stats VERY WELL and the South would be it's primary market (no?) ... Yeah, I actually respect that, but it's a bad sign on the eve of rankings being released, although I'm assuming that all the reputation surveys are already back in.eandy wrote:I saw that on ATL this morning. I'm not concerned. That's the situation at all similarly ranked schools--at least UGA is being proactive instead of being stuck in denial.

+1. If ever there was an illustration as to why you can't trust school's employment claims ...hombredulce wrote:TipTravHoot wrote:Yeah, I actually respect that, but it's a bad sign on the eve of rankings being released, although I'm assuming that all the reputation surveys are already back in.eandy wrote:I saw that on ATL this morning. I suppose the fact that they reached out is a good thing, but no matter how you spin it this is bad. I'm curious to see how Georgia reports their employment and salary numbers this year and next.
