anyways, historically, what are the chances of getting in off their WL?
how would that affect if they get in off the WL? Would going to a top 10 undergrad help with getting off of the list?

Well it seems like the HYP folks are getting some benefit: waitlist vs reject, so that's why I'm wondering if ugrad makes a slight differenceMissLucky wrote:yeah why did you ask that - you think it affects it? Been IR since 3/9, 164 3.45 at top 10 undergrad, non URM but good softs and recs. I don't get it, why haven't they rejected me yet? I just want to know one way or the other so I can stop being nervous about this.

You probably haven't been rejected because you are from a Top 10 undergrad and as we've seen from this thread...that seems to hold a lot of weight.

Re: USC 2010!
Tales from the Waitlist:
After applying in late January, I did not hear a word from the admissions office. Assuming that they were simply taking their sweet ol' time and doing decisions somewhat old school (i.e. no status check, etc.), imagine my surprise when I discovered--by pure coincidence, no less--that they do indeed have an online checker and, by that time, I'd been waitlisted for 2 weeks already and HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA. The office claims their notification email and envelope may simply have gotten lost along the way, but I find it very hard to swallow that both forms of communication could somehow disappear into the black whole of delivery. This is not to mention that by the time I noticed, the deadline to respond to the waitlist letter had presumably passed! Luckily, Amy Stevens at the admit office gave me a pass on that (as she should, since I do maintain none of this is my fault!).
I popped by USC last weekend ("popped by" being an understatement, as I am from the Bay Area, haha) just to get a sense of 1) whether I even like LA and 2) whether I want to continue wooing SC. I'd only made it to the front desk of the office before the lady told me, plain and simple, "You're not allowed to meet with anyone or talk to anyone. The only thing you can do is submit LOCIs. Of course, don't just repeat similar types of materials as the ones you put on your resume and/or just add to your accomplishments--we've already read those and why would be want to re-read a BORING application." (I appreciate her honesty, but to label our applications "boring", as if that's the entire reason we haven't been accepted, was a little rude!) She then pointed to a large binder buried beneath a million other papers that contained all the LOCIs that I suspect go largely ignored.
That said, she made it pretty clear that when it comes down to the wire, students who have submitted LOCIs will have preference over those who have not, regardless of their stats, etc (provided those LOCIs aren't "boring", right?). She also implied that if you suck up to a professor or two, that helps. By contrast, UCLA (where I am also waitlisted) told me that while they accept LOCIs just to gauge which applicants are still active, they make decisions based on your original application and qualifications.
...To add insult to injury, as I made my way back to the car, some rude SC student in a suit slammed a heavy parking garage door into my back and didn't even apologize. He muttered an "excuse me" before he continued his conversation on his Blackberry, striding past as if he were the victim. Um, excuse ME, that fireproof door you pushed into the spine of a girl half your size caused a lot of PAIN!...
Of course, the latter does not and should not reflect USC as a school, and in fact I was pleasantly surprised by the campus and really enjoyed the whole environment! My experience with the people there has left something to be desired, though.

Re: USC 2010!
Rejected. Words can not describe my disgust and anger for them taking so long to make a decision. Seven months just to reject someone is just plain mean.

It is mean. Seriously... mean. And I remember reading (correct me if I'm mistaken) that finalaspects and JolieSaraLee went through review multiple times simply to be rejected. For G-d's sake, if you are going to reject these people...why put them through multiple reviews before doing so?brose002 wrote:Rejected.
