Is it accepted that a phone call always occurs when you are offered admission?
Not sure. I think I read on LSN that someone last year got accepted via status checker in May w/o a call, but I may be mistaken.
Sure would like to know the answer to this question though...

Also, @Thirteen: Thanks for your encouragement.
$200 was due by April 1, and the second deposit of $200 is due by June 1. Funky, I can tell that you'd be a good addition to the class, and someone that would be cool to hang with for 3 years. If you are an OU fan, disregard the second part of my statement, haha.
Much love and thanks. I've got no quarrel with OKC. I have good friends there and nearly drank myself silly there once many moons ago. That being said, I cannot abide OU. In fact, when Barry Switzer coached the Cowboys, it was a very confusing time in my life.

So how many of you are SMU or bust right now? Are they for sure your top choice?

Very much my top choice, if I get in, I'd rather say it's a miracle, but I want to stay in the Dallas area, so Texas Wesleyan is my second, I would even pass up schools ranked in the 50's possibly cause it's in dallas. hopes thats not a bad decision.

Definitely attending.
Due to family/job it was either SMU, Wesleyan, or wait for UNT to open. SMU was the only application I sent in. I figured that if I didn't get in, I would sit out a cycle, prep for the lsat, and try again next year.
Fortunately I squeaked in and don't have to sit out a year (which is painful when you're as old as me!).

That sounds exactly like my circumstances and plans, except I'm not really considering Wesleyan.
Looking back, I wish I had made an effort to meet the early deadline--I purposely delayed applying until I knew my December LSAT score.
Still sitting at 4/7 updated "complete."

Nope, I was initially complete 3/1, then I got an updated 4/7 complete date.
I haven't seen decision rendered yet.

Does anyone know the new median lsat and gpa numbers for SMU that came out with yesterday's 2011 rankings? Is that even included with those rankings?

No doubt. I am actually in class right now in Garrison (if you remember that building). 1 month until I graduate.

With such a broad LSAT range, I am led to believe that non-number factors play a significant role in SMU's admission process.

The gap in LSAT and GPA is huge. I wonder, does this include the PT admissions as well?

It is a pretty big spread. Most schools only have a 4 or 5 point difference between their 25% and 75% LSAT. I think someone else already mentioned this, but I think it is an indicator that SMU may "look beyond the numbers" a little bit more than many other schools do.

I find it curious that many of you claim "SMU looks beyond numbers" yet they admitted 99% of the applicants who had 163s and above. Actually, per this thread, the ONLY people they've accepted into the FT program(thus far) are those with 163+.

Nice, and congrats on the upcoming graduation. I do remember Garrison (I'm not that old, haha).

Feel free to offer your own alternative explanation. The range between the 25% and 75% LSAT scores for SMU is about twice the size of other schools. We've offered one possible explanation.
"This thread" is a pretty small sample size to form the basis of any generalizations regarding their acceptance criteria. It may be true that they haven't accepted anyone in this thread into the FT program with anything under a 163... but the fact that the 25% LSAT score is a 155 means that they do admit a lot of folks with scores of 155 and below. Just because they aren't posting in this thread doesn't mean they don't exist. Also, if you check LSN, there are several sub-160s who have been admitted... and a good portion of them are for full time.

Agreed. How could you argue to the contrary. I haven't done much research into the subject, but I would be willing to bet that SMU's LSAT range has a top 10 rank for largest LSAT broadness between 25 - 75. That means that 155ers have to offer something equally as attractive as the 165ers to be admitted. I honestly doubt that GPA is the only other ingredient, so it must be something else, non-numbers related.

FunkyJD, if you end up at 'Nova and I end up at RU-C, maybe we can get together and cry about SMU together.

My Lord ... truer words were never spoken. I've got a good friend at Syracuse Law, and others in NYC and DC. I'm thinking we'll all need to get together, join powers, and rock the Northeast ...
... or, we could just get into SMU, damn it!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
