You would never slum it at Michigan, so it might have to be NYU or Penn then.
I thought everyone on TLS thought that Penn WAS slumming it in comparison to Mich?
Penn is an Ivy and I need that to impress my friends and family.
i love it when Helm drops a line that everyone else is thinking but doesn't want to admit.

If I had smarter friends I'd think this, but if I told my friends I was going to Penn Law I'd probably just get a lot of questions about Joe Paterno. Columbia has much, much better snob appeal.

Cornell FTW in terms of real rank vs lay-prestige.
On a related note, why does everyone outside of law, at least around here, automatically assume I'm going to Georgetown when I tell them I got in there?

this. you'd probably have to say "i'm going to penn, which is an ivy" to get the effect you want. and then it probably wouldn't be the effect you want, DUCY?

"i'm going to U penn, which is an ivy, in philadelphia..." trust me the more qualifiers the better...one gets used to just going along with the "how's your football team" question after a while

the point, though, is that in this hypo, we don't get into CLS.

Yep same here, I think Duke is probably the best on the prestige at lowest rank scale (if not nationwide def the South)

Does anybody know whether it is advisable to visit Columbia's admissions office in person? In the city on business and wondering if it's helpful. I heard that they often allow informal meetings/interviews with admissions officers if you come in person. It's not formal but I heard that if you make a good impression that it could help (vice versa if you make a bad impression of course).

If anybody has done this, do they have any tips or suggestions?

Was thinking of doing the exact same thing on Friday. Thoughts anyone?
