:?

Med school, UG, grad schools?

Aside from Kellogg (which isn't that much better than Booth), NU gets pwned by Chicago.

UG: Adv NU. I don't care what USNWR says
Med School: Adv Chi
B School: Adv NU
Engineering: Adv NU, chicago doesn't even have it
Science: Adv Chi
Liberal Arts: Adv Chi

Overrall they are remarkably well matched schools. I was anti south side trolling.

So NU - 2, Chicago - 5.

I don't know if I trust a ranking system which puts Stanford behind Cornell and Duke. Or Cal behind UCLA (had to throw that in there).

I'm trolling. Though I'd go to NU over Chicago for undergrad. Chicago is the better university, but they are close.

Chicago kicks ass in lib arts/social sciences but even their advantage in econ is very small now. I question Chicago > NU for sciences, the Chem dept and nanotech stuff at NU is apparently insane.

I think Chicago provides the better academic experience overall. That said, there's a very good reason why NU is more selective, and the two are basically tied WRT employment prospects.

I wonder how strict Chicago is about the February 1st NeedAccess deadline. I never thought I would get into Chicago so I didn't even consider filing any financial aid documents for them this early in the cycle. So after I was accepted yesterday, I went to their site and see what I had to submit. Yet they said the NeedAccess deadline was February 1st. I submitted this morning on 2/6. Hopefully it is close enough that they will still at least consider it. I'm just a bit confused (and worried) because no other school that uses NeedAccess has a date this early, or anywhere close. And I was counting on a good chunk of need-based aid.

I'm thinking it's probably a 'recommended' deadline. It'd be way unfair to the new round of admits if it were a formal deadline.

I just did a little digging and found this on Chicago's website:

"Need Access reports received after February 1 will be considered for need-based scholarship aid only if funds remain available."

So I don't think that submitting 2/6 is a huge problem because it is just a hair past the deadline. Submitting it in March could be problematic.

Maybe it's less Stanford and more you went to crapville state? There is a difference between prestige whoring and looking down at a seriously shit school.
Nothing wrong with state schools. I studied in the California State University system for two years before I transferred to UCLA (public, but nevertheless pretty highly regarded), and I honestly think I learned more at my CSU.

I never said ALL state schools were crappy. Look at my name, obviously I went to a state school. But there is a difference between a solid state school and a shitty one. I would be a fool to think all state schools are bad. Michigan, UVA, UCLA etc... Way better than most private schools. But also waaaay better than Central Missouri or other state schools of a similar caliber.

California arguably has the best public-university system in the United States and perhaps should be exempted from this debate. Many of the UCs are very competitive with private institutions, and the Cal States (the second tier) are perfectly respectable.

I'm not talking about UCLA; I'm talking about California State University, Bakersfield. I don't think it gets more Bumfuck State than that, and like I said, I learned a lot there. As long as you stay away from the degree mills run by fundamentalists, you can get a good education at almost any level school.

Remind me, which state school is better than Berkeley?

Now, of course, the California system is not as awesome as it once was--we can blame Prop 13 for that. But it's still the best in the country.
