It is most certainly NOT a formality. I have a friend who's a 1L at HLS and she also works in the admissions office with Josh (I totally have been giving her reports on how my admissions process has been going) and here's what she wrote me after I sent her a Facebook message saying that I was worried that I had botched my JR1: "HLS usually accepts between 1/2 and 2/3 of people that they interview on the phone."
And no, I am not lying about this message and no I am not a troll. This is honest to goodness what my admissions friend told me.

And yet, you got the JR2. That gives hope to all of us (me) who feel like we may have botched our JR1.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's not a formality.
In any case, congrats people!

BTW, for those who have gotten the call, has your status checker changed at all? Are you able to access the admitted students site?

I know it's no JR2, but I just got my JR1, and, well, I began jumping around the room (something about Harvard Law acknowledging my existence really makes me happy). Congrats to all y'all with JR2s, and get the hell off of TLS unless you feel like giving advice! Enjoy

And of course my nightmare scenario of being on a plane when the JR2s start has come true. This will be a long long flight.

I told you to Skype it up! Hopefully you'll have a voicemail waiting for you when you land. Congrats to everyone in so far...my productivity is obviously shot for the day.
This must be a fun day for JR.
