Sorry to hear that.
Good luck to you! I don't *really* want to be at Duke in the fall, and I think that showed in my lack of effort. I have a relatively strong application package, so I'm just hoping that wasn't the issue. I'm a little concerned about what this means for the rest of my cycle, but I did the optional essays for most other schools.
Aside from going back in time and applying earlier, it's out of my hands now! I'll probably withdraw from Duke, either way.

You know what, for a PT applicant, you're alllllright. I like you. Congrats on your acceptance and thanks so much for the good luck vibes.Reedie wrote:To all non PT Duke applicants:
I'm sorry for holding you all up. I feel guilty now. But good luck, and I think your patience will pay off!
Really, I'm sure something along the lines of PT happens at every school, it's just that at Duke they make it explicit, use a hard LSAT cutoff (seems to be 169+ this year), and guarantee a 10-day turnaround. But really, I can't be a hater because I understand that they would like to see how the applicant pool shapes up before considering/comparing those candidates who are near/under medians. Just the way it is.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, PT leapfrogging is still frustrating as hell...

I think the PT track also gives Duke an ability to read the other applications more thoroughly later in the cycle - having all the autoadmits taken care of and with an idea of what the class looks like. While it may take a while to get in, if you do, you'll never remember it, just the acceptance.astro1819 wrote:You know what, for a PT applicant, you're alllllright. I like you. I'm over both medians and didn't get a PT invite, so I'm stuck waiting here too. I think I submitted too quickly after December scores were released and then missed out on that batch of PT invitations.

Try contacting someone in the admission's office and see if they will switch you over to PT. I think its worked before.thickfreakness wrote:I'm over both medians and didn't get a PT invite, so I'm stuck waiting here too. I solicited a fee waiver and they responded with a PT post-Dec score release. Requested from a few other schools and saved a significant chunk of change.thickfreakness wrote:I'm over both medians and didn't get a PT invite, so I'm stuck waiting here too. I'll give it a shot, I suppose. I actually had a non-PT fee waiver offered after a previous score, so I used that to apply. I just don't want to seem neurotic or imposing if I ask for them to switch me to priority track after I've submitted.

Yes, I did. It addressed Duke's academics, but about 1/3 of it was devoted to personal ties to Duke/the area around Duke (although I'm still not sure if admissions offices like the personal stuff or not).AngryAvocado wrote:Congrats! Woot, I think I recognize your avatar and you've been waiting for a while! Congrats! Do you live near Durham? If so, what's it like?lsathalon wrote:I just got in with an email at 9:25 tonight! Yeah, I live about 20 minutes away in Chapel Hill. I grew up about 30 minutes from Durham, and I dated my fiance for his entire undergrad at Duke, so I'm definitely familiar with the campus/Durham!
It's really a nice place. Durham is no New York in terms of number of things to explore, but everything you could possibly need is close; there is great shopping at Southpoint about 15 minutes away from Duke, and there are plenty of restaurants/movie theaters/etc. The nightlife is fun, too, Most of it takes place on Ninth Street; in particular, there is a quintessential Irish pub called the James Joyce and a sports bar called Satisfactions that seemed popular with the grad school crowd and have great atmospheres.
If anyone has any questions about the area, let me know! And good luck to those still waiting!

I don't think that necessarily means a waitlist. I was admitted and my status checker updated on day 7 or 8 I believe while staying 'under review'. I was admitted on the 10th day. So don't loose hope yet!Sauer Grapes wrote:Well... looks like I'll be waitlisted as well. Status changed to under review with today's date instead of 1/14 under review (9 days from submission).

I also got in a couple of days ago. I did write a 'why Duke' essay.

Re: In at Duke!
I didn't write a why Duke, but I did have a paragraph in my PS about certain aspects of the school which appealed to me. I didn't want to go there very much initially, but after speaking to an alum this week and reading more about Duke I changed my mind, unfortunately this likely happened just in time to get denied.
If I get waitlisted I guess I will spend some time writing a Why Duke essay, and sending in a LOR from a professor I held in reserve.
