emoticons: CA state schools don't take residency into account? Is that true?! I know that, for example, University of Texas is required to admit 65% Texas residents and I assumed it would be similar for California state schools.

Do you guys think Villanova is a Legit school? I feel like there's a difference between a legitimate law school and all those T3/T4 JD Mills.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
Not sure about Villanova. I know they sent me a fee waiver awhile back, and most of the schools that sent me FW's were not what I'd really consider "legit". By "legit" I guess I mean "worth moving to another state and paying big bucks for" Villanova probably has regional connections, like any law school. But, if I remember correctly, its pretty damn expensive and not that hard to get in to.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
Villanova has a good rep and connections in the Philly area. I think it's relatively easy to get into because Temple, which is slightly better, is so inexpensive comparatively. Especially for in state (18k). These two schools compete for many of the same students so Temple wins out most of the time based on price.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
well, just a reminder to your guys about how easy it is to get into Villanova....Villanova has almost the exact same entering class numbers as UC Davis or Hastings. So don't trash it too much.

I'm like 90% positive they don't take residency into account. I googled it and the first thing that came up was UC Davis does not take into account residency. I'd assume it's the same for Hastings.ChrisCiolko wrote:emoticons: CA state schools don't take residency into account? Is that true?! ^ Interesting.
Sounds like Villanova and Temple are sort of like SMU and U of Houston. Similar profiles and adjacent legal markets, but the fact that one is much more expensive than the other really increases the popularity of the cheaper alternative.

I asked, because my situation is complicated. I split my time between NY and CA, and my dad says I'm eligible for CA residency, since I paid out of state tuition in NY, though I've since graduated. My CA resident parents are supporting me. In any case, Hastings said it didn't matter for admission, and my status would be determined if they let me in. Please let me in!

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
i got in yesterday with a letter dated 1/16 (i live on the peninsula; applied and complete 10/27). with a 164/3.36 i am currently helping to define the bottom of the lsn graph i am a california resident but according to the hastings website that is not taken into consideration:

Is California residency important for admissions?
No, California residency has no impact on the application process. Do note, however, that the tuition for out-of-state students is higher than that for California residents. Students can often attain California residency for tuition purposes by their second or third year of law school. Read about residency requirements.

Does the letter say anything about when the ASW/ASD is?

no; it gives a code in order to access the admitted students site which references upcoming ASDs. i am told the specific dates will arrive via email, and they occur on saturdays one each in march, april, and may.

Congrats! Looks like a bunch of people with 164/3.5 targeted Hastings and quite a few got in. Those are my exact stats. I hope this bodes well for my chances...

And for the record, Hastings doesn't have an online status check, correct?

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
164, 3.37, LEOP, and waiting, waiting, waiting. Now I wonder if I should have foregone LEOP to have an answer sooner. For anyone else who applied LEOP, I inquired about the time frame, and was told we'll have our decisions in March.... Congrats to all the new Hastings admits!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
