There is one more group to go into review after the current one. I'd say you will go "File in Review" next week then get a decision by the end of May.

This a public release from Univ. of Houston Law school Dean, Raymond Nimmer.
3L's have no job offers. Does this trouble any of you?

It’s clear that the ongoing economic crisis is affecting job markets in every city and every profession – and the consequences for the legal profession and our graduating 3L’s are profound and troubling. A great Law Center is a community, and members of communities pull together to help each other. We are doing so. As we prepare to graduate our Class of 2009, the Law Center has initiated a program providing up to $500,000 to support our newest graduates. These programs are focused mostly on the several months that follow the bar exam.

We are expanding a Public Interest Fellowship program that was launched in 2006, and I encourage our friends and alumni in the public-interest arena to reach out to our recent graduates without incurring any costs. For a period of three months, the Law Center will provide a stipend of $6,000 to new graduates selected for these Public Interest Fellowships, which will allow them to serve the community while they add direct work experience to their résumés. To qualify, public interest positions must be listed with our Career Development Office.

We are also offering three-month Research Fellowships to members of the Class of 2009 who assist our faculty with research projects, or help coordinate alumni outreach.

In addition, new graduates can receive a 50% scholarship for Fall Semester if they are admitted to our LL.M. degree program, and they can register without cost for specialized classes and UH continuing legal education courses. Add it all up – and our support program for new graduates could total to $500,000.

I told our graduating students that we are determined to do everything we can to help them weather the current environment. In short, we are committed to their success – and I know you join me in that sentiment.

So THAT'S where the scholarship money is going. Eh, there are worse ways to spend it. I kind of like knowing that they are trying to help out graduates.

On another note, has anybody who has been waitlisted heard anything?

I'm STILL waiting on my decision letter to arrive. Decision was rendered on 04/28. But, then again, my income tax refund was mailed on 04/24 and that hasn't arrived either. Maybe the postoffice, too, is trying to save money and the mailcarrier only delivers to my street once weekly.

Pretty scary e-mail, though. Makes more of an argument for the law schools with lower tuitions such as UH and LSU.

As a 1L, I'm glad to know that they're trying to do something to help the recent grads out. If you read any other legal blogs, you're aware that this economy has forced a lot of law firms to downsize or close shop all together. Houston isn't as bad as many cities right now, but things are still slowing down. I don't think it's the fault of UH for not necessarily finding jobs for everyone, it's just that there aren't as many jobs available.

I'm just hoping the economy really gets going soon so that I'll have a job when I'm looking for one next year.

Nope. Waitlisters won't start hearing until after the last regular decision person hears. Could be a while. :-/

I just called and asked. It means it went to a different reviewer. The admissions guy didn't indicate whether this was good or bad. FML

If you read back a bit in the thread, most of ours did that just before decision was made. I think that perhaps this late in the game and with limited spots (for us non-auto admits), they are having more than one person review. Just my thought.
