I've got similar number, and I am URM Hispanic female. I applied for PT and also went in review today 3/29/10.

Looks like they are starting to make some moves in admissions. Epp!
Wait, you could apply for both at the same time? I thought it was one or the other.

It depends on how much money the Student Bar Association has to spend. In the middle of the semester they're usually about once every other week. Once a month they'll have it at a different bar in Houston, and two weeks later they'll have it on campus in one of the courtyards with hamburgers and beer.

They just made a facebook event for the next bar review at the West Alabama Ice House this Thursday, which seems like a really weird location for a bar review to me. Usually they're in a bit nicer bars.

Other student groups hold social events too though. I'm the President of the Corporate and Tax Law society on campus, and we have a social once a semester with an open bar tab for club members.

Texasboundanddown wrote:How much is Calhoun loft housing? I've heard they had trouble filling it since it was a wee bit expensive and so have been cutting prices. Its so dumb of them to build premium housing for grad students that are going there since its cheaper than most places in the first place. Also, how do they expect to attract commuters when my friend and I found cheaper housing in Midtown in a fairly nice neighborhood. Dorm like places should be cheap, not more expensive than their apartment counterparts. Lop a hundred to a hundred and twenty five dollars off the top of the unfurnished efficiency/1 bedroom lofts and they won't have trouble filling it. I promise.
yeah, i've found much cheaper and bigger apartments. calhoun doesn't even have dishwashers in the 1-bedroom. Saving 30-50 mins a day on commuting isn't worth living in an expensive shoebox.

I've lived at every student housing establishment at U of H.

I can tell you in confidence that Calhoun Lofts were built to bilk money from trust fund babies and people too lazy to look for housing as graduate students at the law and business schools.

Stay away at all costs.

Odd that my app was completed 2/5 and nothing has been changed on my status checker. I am a white male 3.47 153 PT only. I would say your chances are better than mine because your URM.

so to clarify, does UofH sound out packets or not? And can anybody confirm that FT students have received scholarship offers?

I didn't get a packet, all I got was letter about a week after my status checker went to admitted.

It isn't clear whether any scholly $ has gone out. 2 people on lsn are claiming $, but I'm pretty sure they're telling porky pies.

They are telling the truth. They sent out packages 3 weeks ago and are likely to be sending more out in the next 3 weeks.

possible, but how do you know?

i thought one of the people claiming to have received $ contradicted himself on this thread about when/how he got money. I've spoken to various persons at UH about when scholly $ is getting released, and they all gave me different answers. But most of them said that no scholly dollars had been allotted (this was like 2 weeks ago).

Whats more, one of the LSN people posted their scholly $ more than 3 weeks ago.

I talked to Dean West Friday... when I went to UH and she personally told me this. Scholarship recipients are first notified by email and then an official letter in the mail. The terms of scholarships are also somewhat different for in state and non-in state residents

Awesome, that sounds like the most reliable source we've found thus far.

I'm the poster who received his scholarship info a while ago. I got an email on March 4th from Jamie Ann West giving me $45,000. I'm not sure why you think anyone would make it up? I was confused to get notified so early, especially since many people still haven't heard (people with stronger numbers) but I figured it must be because I'm living in China and it would take forever for me to receive a packet.

i thought someone had given 2 different versions of their scholly story. i may be mistaken.

people make up a lot of stuff for a lot of reasons (i.e. to make others withdraw because they think they missed the scholly offer wave). anyways, props on the $.

Are you applying for PT or FT? When did you submit? I submitted in mid January. I have similar stats with 5 year work history and am still in review as well...

I am applying FT. I submitted in Jan. Few days later the status changed to file complete, then in last week of Feb it again changed to File under review. Yesterday the date changed to 3/29. What do you think the chances of admission are?

My status checker went complete on 2/15 and hasn't gone in review to date. I'm wondering what this means as I am applying to the FT program. My lsat is under the median (158) so I know U of H is a reach but not impossible with some of my letters. I wonder if they wait until the very end to consider the candidates that may know a few people in the program? If not just waiting at square 1...
