Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I don't think everyone is getting deferred. If that were the case, how would you explain the adcomms changing the date on some, but not changing the status? Seems like they would do one when they did the other if they were just going to defer everyone. Just my .02 cents...BigAristotle wrote:He doesn't have a felony record (that I know of); I just think it's a show that everyone is getting deferred.DallasJosh wrote:Wow. 167 and a 3.7 GPA got deferred? Lets just wait this week out and see what happens, no sense in arguing about it because we're not the adcomms...in the mean time lets try to take our minds off of this mindless act that they call "admissions" good night!

My date was just updated to today 1/28, but my status still says "application completed". Hopefully this is good news.

My status just changed to application complete, and the date changed from 11/26 to 1/28. I have no clue what this means. Anybody have any ideas or a theory on this?

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I'm going to think positively and say that it is a good thing. Only because if it was a rejection, why not just say a decision was sent. Also, if they were still reviewing our applications, wouldn't they just say they've been held for further review? SMU is one of my top choices, so I am hoping this is positive.

Yeah I am hoping for the same thing. If it was going to be deferred you think they would just change the status to held for further review. I'm really hoping this application complete means accepted when it comes to the 31st deadline. I live in Dallas, so SMU is my top choice. If you hear anythig else please let me know. Good luck to ya.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I'm starting to come around on the idea that all of those whose status date changed but their status did not are those who are probably gonna be accepted early decision. My decision went on hold on Monday but my date said 01/29/09, so they really don't want me I guess...jmoc2009 wrote:my current status date was changed this afternoon to 1/28/2009 - still says "application completed".

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
They may not have gotten through all the ED apps in time for the Jan 31 deadline. Many of the "holds" may simply be files they haven't gotten around to reading yet. As for all these other status changes... who knows, but I expect they will be getting up/down decisions.
Does anyone know how smu notifies? I assume via snail mail (based on their not so stellar use of technology).

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
You're right about the firm decision (not necessarily accept), but I'm not sure what incentive SMU has to not build their class with highly qualified applicants if they apply early decision. If the numbers are there, they'll take them, but I do agree with the poster above that they probably just did not get to reading some of them...I think SMU might be trying to wait to see if they get more applications because of the waning economy.betasteve wrote:I think those that had status changed to completed with new date are going to get a firm decision - not necessarily accept. I am confused about the one poster that had "Decision Rendered" on their status updater. This is a really odd cycle, given some of the deferral that seem to be auto-admits, even with $.OasisFan wrote:I'm starting to come around on the idea that all of those whose status date changed but their status did not are those who are probably gonna be accepted early decision. My ONLY guess is that they received some fairly strong apps after the ED cutoff date, and want to include those in the pool and not build a class too early based on the ED candidates.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
The reason I am assuming acceptances is because why would people with significantly lower numbers than myself be "held for further review?". They may be trying to build a strong class based on life experience as well as numbers. I am not trying to jump to conclusions, just trying to think in the positive realm (if you build it they will come, sort of thing)

most of the auto-admits from the december 19th group reported phone calls. haven't heard anything other than that.

Did you apply to both the daytime and evening programs? If so, maybe you were accepted to evening...

I did apply to both. So I am seriously hoping this is a good sign!

I applied to both programs, and the degree type says JD Evening, but I honestly can't remember if said something before, or if it always said that. Does anyone who applied to both remember what it said?

I applied to both program types, but mine has not changed at all...still says "Full Time & Part Time" ... It doesn't say JD evening anywhere. Not sure what to think of that. . .

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
Well mine still says Full-time and part-time under program type, but just to the right of it under degree it says JD Evening, I wonder if this means that I'm rejected for full-time, and now my application is being reviewed for only the part-time program.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
Not that it really means anything, but I did a little digging back through this thread and people's profiles to compile the numbers for these three "groups" SMU seems to be putting together. See below:
Held for Further Review (Deferred to regular admission cycle)
167/3.7
166/3.2
155/3.6
xxx/3.7
Decision Reached
155/3.59
Date updated, but still listed as "Application Complete"
172/3.1 - non trad
170/2.8 - non trad
165/3.95
161/3.6
158/3.6
xxx/3.8
After looking at these numbers closely, I am more convinced than ever that none of us know what the hell is going on. We'll just have to sit tight until early-to-mid next week when the mail starts coming in, I think...
** feel free to add your numbers to this list so we can get a broader survey grouping.
