Re: Boston University C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
It is....but I don't know what I am going to do. I will have to see how much money I get. I can't take out too much in terms of loans....I was already figuring at least 30-40,000 for the 3 years for cost of living (luckily I have my boyfriend to help keep that down). I am not sure how much I can put on top of that for tuition and have it still be worth it.Houzy wrote:That's how mine reads also.ashrice13 wrote:For anyone interested, my status checker is updated at the top with:
"Thank you for applying to the Boston University Distinguished Scholar Binding Early Decision Program. We appreciate your enthusiasm for BU Law and the fact that you completed your application early. Although we are unable to offer you admission at this time, we are impressed with your qualifications and would like to hold your application for review during the regular admissions cycle. Please feel free to send any updates to your application to bulawadm@bu.edu. If you have updated transcripts they should be sent to CAS so that we will receive an updated CAS Law School Report."
My status now says: File on hold
and my status date changed to today
So what now for you ashrice13? I know money is a huge factor for most people (myself included). Is BU still your first choice?
How about you?

Thank you, I really appreciate it!! I'll think about that...we'll see how long the wait is for a decision nowmm2368 wrote:I just want you to know we are all rooting for you and we know that you are going to be okay. This will work out, and they will throw some type of money at you. Stay positive and know that what you've accomplished is by no means small. They could have dinged you. They like you and just need some time to reevaluate. They're people, too - they don't get everything right. I'd venture to say this was a mistake on their partashrice13 wrote:For anyone interested, my status checker is updated at the top with:

My advice, and it's unsolicited and speculative, so take it with a grain of salt, is to send a LOCI-style letter. They might not be expecting it (I doubt that people who are rolled over ever send one, so it could be a nice treat) but I'd send it. Let them know you've not at all given up, and what, if any, are some of the updates in your life which make you an even stronger candidate than when you first applied. Even if you don't have specific updates, I think it's nice even to thank them for their consideration (ass-kissing, I know) and remind them that you're determined to make this happen for yourself.
I just wish I knew if there was a flaw in my application (LOR, Diversity/personal Statement, etc) or if it was strictly that my numbers weren't high enough. More for other apps/$$ consideration than anything. If there is a flaw somewhere I want to know about it, obviously.

Yeah....you're totally right here.mm2368 wrote:I feel you, completely. But don't over-analyze what you've submitted -you'll make mountains out of mole hills and see as flaws things which are not flaws at all. It's tough to say this but I think the competition was just stiff as fuck this year. If there had been a serious flaw, they'd have dinged for sure.ashrice13 wrote: Thank you, I really appreciate it!! once you've processed this, take some time to calmly read what you've submitted. I sincerely doubt this was about you. and as far as LORs go, not sure. you can't change that, though, so don't even sweat it. (easier said than done).

Re: Boston University C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
2k is being generous. You're looking at about that or more....It's not the worst COL when you factor in roommates but it's definitely not the best either. Boston is also iffy in terms of food costs. You can definitely find cheap but good food but you need to wade through the over priced stuff.Houzy wrote: It's definitely up there and BU is pretty generous with scholarship offerings. However, Boston COL is so damn high, that's the real kicker. It'll all depend on scholarship money. Paying 2k (that's being generous, so I've heard; I'm not from Boston area) in rent every month sounds like a nightmare. Topple that with tuition rates and
I live about 45minutes outside of the city and plan to commute. The cost of gas/train/parking is actually cheaper that paying the in-city rents. I also live with my boyfriend and he's going to help with COL...it's the only way I can do it. I'm still scared of the prospect of paying for tuition on top of it all though.
Eh. Whatever. Nothing we can really do now other than wait.

Haha. That sucks!mm2368 wrote:waiting to hear back from law school entails many things! prime among them getting an email from the University of Baltimore law school, seeing "UB" in the subject line, and reading it as "BU," getting excited, discovering that you were wrong, and shoving a box of fucking oreos into your mouth.
If it makes you feel better, because I living in Massachusetts I've received several solicitor calls from a 617 area code in the last few weeks.
Edit: just got an email from UB. Just did the same thing.

I unsubscribed from CRS ... That shit got annoying, being emailed from schools that you know you'd never take seriously. Although I did take Indiana up on its offer to visit for free... The free trip was nice cuz I used it to get to Chicago.mm2368 wrote:waiting to hear back from law school entails many things! prime among them getting an email from the University of Baltimore law school, seeing "UB" in the subject line, and reading it as "BU," getting excited, discovering that you were wrong, and shoving a box of fucking oreos into your mouth.

Remember, even if we didn't get in with our ED, it was definitely a net positive in showing our interest for the school.
I'm sure there isn't enough data on our end to see if it translates to increased scholly over comparable stats, but it can't hurt!
e - also, ~4% of ED have gotten it in the past. Can't feel bad about not being in that pool. Def. just want to see my offer now though!

Agreed - ready to see what I can get for $$ now. I might even decide to delay and retake depending on the scholly offer.Dodocogon wrote:Remember, even if we didn't get in with our ED, it was definitely a net positive in showing our interest for the school.

I remember from past years that many ED applicants who were rolled over received their scholly info quicker. Let's hope that continues! I am now just wondering if the decisions come somewhat quick after being rolled over. You'd think so, right? I mean they have already reviewed your application.

I think most of the time, the time that it takes the reach a decision is mostly based on their need to see how their applicant pool for the year is shaping up, rather than having to read your applicationashrice13 wrote:Agreed - ready to see what I can get for $$ now.
