I fully intend on selling my car to fund my move. I'll be trading it in for a bike to get to and from class hopefully.

the paint on my car suddenly started to rapidly rust away, on my 2009 civic. Just checked KBB and it halved in value since I bought it two years ago Guess it's not worth selling anymore. though it will suck paying insurance. maybe I'll switch to whatever state because wherever I am it will for sure be cheaper than NJ car insurance lol

I bought these new brown flats that I figured I would use a lot, but they're made of really soft leather. I wore them for the second time when going to Michigan, and they got really stained in the rain. I just also scratched them on a cement stair at work. something clicked and I was filled with the dread that I won't have income anymore and won't be able to buy new shoes

The A/C went out in my car and will be a $1,500 fix. I figured I'd rather sell it for whatever I can get rather than worry about driving a clunker with no A/C across the country.

Update, he told them:
I was considering them because they have a "reasonable ranking"
I was considering at "higher ranked school with nearly a full scholarship."
I am "anxious because commitment deadlines are coming up for other schools."

none of this bodes well for a yp'd waitlist

Your A/C might just need to be recharged. That's a pretty cheap fix ($100 or less). Mine has a huge hole in some part of the system that would require replacing almost the entire system. Even if you do have a small leak - it's a pretty cheap and easy fix. If you know someone that knows cars, you can even do most of that at home.

VP of student affairs undergrad (who my dad knows very well) forwarded his e-mail to dean of student affairs, who forwarded it to dean of admissions

OK but the professional thing to do would be to 100% disregard that email when evaluating your app. Not saying that will for sure happen, but admissions people really shouldn't consider emails from outside sources (minus LoRs) when deciding who gets off the waitlist.

I agree with you Chandhi, and I think they probably would in most cases. I think the problem here is it as done tactlessly from a family member from a positive place.

I think they'd be far more inclined to disregard an e-mail from some estranged lover ranting about you. (yeah yeah probably a bit of a false dichotomy or exaggeration... just to illustrate the point.) The above will come across as being entitled or something IMO.

it's not even like a helicopter parent situation, i've been living independent from my parents for nearly 7 years (in like three others states).

really all i've even told them about the law school application process was how hard my LSAT studying was, how psyched i was to get a good score, my acceptances and scholarships amounts, and getting waitlisted at my top choice

I think my dad sincerely just thought he was helping by tapping the only connection he has to my first choice school

Hopefully the dean kept the email out of your file and didn't forward the email to all the other adcomms. And maybe he won't be the adcomm making the decision on your file.

also he said it was my top school too. he was pretty genuine about how much i wanted to attend. i think he just wanted to throw out some names to make me sound like they were gonna lose me if they didn't hurry up (which isn't what yp'd schools want to hear)

I honestly don't think it should be something they consider too much, especially since they have something FROM YOU stating it's your top choice. If money is a concern though, your dad did get you some useful info by getting a response saying you most likely won't get as much aid from them lol
