yep iirc, if they submit online rather than snailmail you get basically an instantaneous email notifying you. he probably hasn't submitted. good thing you're getting this shit sorted out now rather than later !R. These gentlemen in the park were one more reminder of the symbiosis I envision between myself and this law school, as well as myself and the community at large. I think I'd have to turn in my man-card if I regularly drank Sauvy B. Now, a monster-oak Chard on the other hand...right up there with a smoky Malbec or a spicy Tempranillo for credited wino consumption.pretzeltime wrote:Ugh yeah talking about oneself is the worst. Foolproof plan is to bust out a bottle of oak-y Chardonnay and allow the creativity to flow this evening.
I do endorse your foolproof plan and think I'll employ it tonight, but with Sauvy Blanc because I'm not a savage.
I did just bust out some good scribbles during my lunch break. Didn't get off to a great start because there were two drunk guys in the teeny tiny park I was in who started felating each other. But my second location was chill
Although, I think you're underselling hobo-fellatio as a solid backdrop for your paper. Like a modern day Hieronymus Bosch painting.

Well, that's what I was afraid of. Dude made a big show of wanting to "get it out the door today"...two weeks ago. And I KNOW he didn't use snail mail because that's not a thing here in good ol' Haiti.R. So, now I have to be that annoying asshole who follows up and pings the guy for a status update.

Blame LSAC: "Sorry to bother - just noticed that LSAC is showing that they haven't received the LOR. No rush, but I just wanted to check with you before I start hassling LSAC about it."ponderingmeerkat wrote:Well, that's what I was afraid of. I'd still do the first one, it would be more awkward over email but it sounds like the final product would be stronger. I don't know if I'd ask someone who gave me a B+, the rec might be something like "he worked really hard and did his absolute best so he was almost in the top quarter of my class".TheMikey wrote:...
If it bothers you that much you could look her up online, if she's still working as a professor her work phone number shouldn't be hard to find. Or write an email saying something like 'I'd like to talk with you more about what I've been up to and get advice about applications blah blah blah" and ask for her work phone number. Professors love to be remembered.

yeah dude prof 1 is the clear choice hereTheMikey wrote:Am I overthinking this? Should I just say screw it and email professor 1?
Just emailing her is fine; I don't see why that would be awk.

Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants
yeah you can (and probably should) be pretty direct about it. sending them an email asking them how theyre doing looks disingenuous when you follow it up with a LOR request right after.TheMikey wrote:Thanks for your experience. How did you approach them though? Did you just flat out say in the first email that you wanted a LOR or did you start with a first email asking them how they're doing and stuff?EnfieldTennisChamp wrote: I requested and was gladly given all 3 of my Lord via email. It was easy to provide a clear and concise package of info for each recommender and let them know what I was looking for. It gives them time to consider and respond.
I haven't spoken to this professor in over a year so idk how I should approach her with this, advice?
I put "letter of rec request" as the subject of my email. you can start the body of the email with a couple sentences of "hey how are you" kind of stuff, and then politely ask for a LOR in the next paragrph. Concisely explain your circumstances and offer to provide a resume or other info they might want. professors do this all the time, they know the drill.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants
Agreeing with Jeeves, I included the request in the subject. If i hadn't interacted with the prof recently, I would start the email something like -
Dear Dr. X,
Hope you are doing well. I am applying for law school and as I was compiling my personal statement/writing sample/etc I had the chance to look back at some of the work/some of the reading/whatever from your course in Fall/Spring 20__. Topic/Lesson/Project/Paper A, B, and C from your course were influential in motivating me to look towards law as a field of study. I feel that my performance in these areas in your course are demonstrative of my abilities to succeed in law school. In light of that, I am writing to ask if you would be willing to write a LOR. I am hoping to have my application package completed by __/__/2016 [4-6 weeks out, minimum]. [Briefly explain the process of electronically submitting the LOR to LSAC in a way that makes it sound easy haha]. I am applying to Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Please let me know if there is any other information that I can provide to facilitate this request.
Thanks for your consideration.
Love,
____ X0XO
One of my recommenders was the director of the honors program, and so had never actually taught a course that I took. For her, I compiled a list, basically an annotated bibliography, of the major projects, presentations, and papers that I had done in my other upper level classes. This actually turned out to be a really handy document to have on hand for the rest of the process, and for writing cover letters and stuff like that. I just scrolled through my dropbox and reviewed the relevant coursework so I could summarize it.
My other recommender was a former boss who had hired me for my first job after graduation. She asked me what I would like her to focus on, which was kind of awkward, but I realized she wasn't saying, "I can't think of anything good to say," she was really just looking to narrow it down. So, since I had my academic bases covered, I asked her to write about my ability to handle complex real-world problems, adapt to change, deal with ambiguity, interact with professionals, and apply my education to new situations. blah blah blah.

Checking in. Currently prepping for the September LSAT, so I will be working on all my materials post LSAT. I hope that it won't be too late. I already contacted two of my LOR's.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
