Looks like a new batch of people got interview requests. I guess that means those of us who were interviewed before are probably donezo. *le sigh*

What makes you think that? Maybe they just want to interview people who didn't get the chance earlier to make sure they have a clear understanding of their entire applicant pool. The earlier interviewees could still be their top choice in the end.genericwit wrote:Looks like a new batch of people got interview requests. no, and I don't think you're obligated to do so, either. Schools often touch base to ask you if you're still interested before they admit you.pdevastey wrote:is there a benefit to withdrawing applications? might be wrong post to ask this i suppose
If you're 100% certain that you'd never go to a school, it would maybe be the polite thing to do, but it's really not some kind of intense ethical obligation.

Does anyone else have thoughts on pre-waitlist interviewees? I went into the waitlist cycle feeling confident in my prospects but now I'm wondering why they would interview more people if they were satisfied with the initial pool of pre-waitlist candidates. The application process is gut-wrenching.

Re: University of Chicago Waitlist c/o 2019
I would guess some of it is timing - they interviewed a lot of us who applied early and ended up on the waitlist, but as the cycle moved on, they seemed to add more applicants to the WL without taking the time to interview. So they could be typing up loose ends from the back half of the cycle.mjsjr wrote:Does anyone else have thoughts on pre-waitlist interviewees? Except that some of the folks who are getting interviews were never WLed.James.K.Polk wrote:I would guess some of it is timing - they interviewed a lot of us who applied early and ended up on the waitlist, but as the cycle moved on, they seemed to add more applicants to the WL without taking the time to interview. Last year someone on TLS was admitted May 31, so we could begin hearing soon. That said, I think the bulk for their decisions come in July...

Throwing it out there that I think most of the people interviewed last week (myself included) had applied very late in the cycle, and had never heard any response whatsoever.

Welp, I'm trying my best to not be a big green monster and be happy for the wave of people who got in. Congratulations in this thread, too. Hope some of us waitlisted folks are next.

Anybody have any idea if or when they will start calling waitlisters for interviews? Is there any precedent for this?

I think acceptances this month have hit all three major groups of people (at least two of each that I know of) - those who were WLed but never interviewed who were called to interview, some who never got initial decisions but were called to interview, and some who had interviewed before.12ozdixiecup wrote:It seemed to me that most people who were called for interviews lately were never WLed.genericwit wrote:... If anyone was wait-listed after an interview, did the interviewer ask if you have given a seat deposit at any other schools? I answered truthfully but i feel like i should have told them no and lie.

They figure people are depositing elsewhere. Its the nature of the game.
